GUNandROD Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 Are high end waders (simms, redington sonic pro, ect?) worth the money? Are they more durable then the cheaper light weight breathables? i'm rocking a pair of Caddis's with duct tape. i ran into some hidden barbed wire crashing through the rocks and bush near frank Lake crow river. ÜberFly Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 Yes and no... I'd definitely say, they are more breathable, and have a better warrantee. All waders will eventually leak, that's a given! Go with the highest quality gear that you can afford (that fit properly). P P.S I personally wouldn't put Redington in the same category as Simms (But you left out a bunch of brands that are)! Quote

The sonic pros look wicked. double layered legs and seat. look durable. Quote
ÜberFly Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 Could be, but I had a pair of Redington CPS waders from a few seasons ago and they were shite!! P The sonic pros look wicked. double layered legs and seat. look durable. Quote
Hawgstoppah Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 My Wardell's have lasted through a beatin' and ask anyone who knows me I am hard on gear... I fish a LOT. Just now (after 2 years and probably 400 days on the water) they are starting to leak in the seams of the feet, which I can get fixed! No holes yet! I've rubbed them up against barb wire and other nasty things too... I'm actually really suprised how long they've been good for. Quote
reevesr1 Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 I go round and round with this question. I currently have a pair of Filson waders. High end, extremely well made. I have around a year on them, and no issues whatsoever. But I also bought a $80 pair of breathables from a chain Sporting Goods store in Houston 3 yrs ago for my son. We've had to aquaseal them a few times, but they are still going strong. My son has outgrown them, so I gave them to the next kid. So it really depends on if you can find a good quality, inexpensive brand. They certainly exist, but some cheap waders are just cheap. Testimonials, like Hawg's above, can help guide you toward inexpensive options. Quote
