ÜberFly Posted August 14, 2010 Posted August 14, 2010 I know there has been some talk previously on here regarding Orvis' Customer Service... Here's my recent experience... So I ordered a new spindle for my Battenkill LA (original part metal, replacement part plastic - original part in photo). Anyway, the original invoice was for over $25 (for a $3 piece - due to the CDN premium, to which I wasn't going to pay and was going to have the item sent to a friend in the States, nonetheless, I wasn't charged - which is good!)... Here's the "interesting" thing, check out the photos... Could they not have sent the part in an envelope?! Not too environmentally friendly, if you ask me?! P Quote
admin Posted August 14, 2010 Posted August 14, 2010 probably had something to do with the tracking and the minimum size of the package to be tracked. Quote
ÜberFly Posted August 15, 2010 Author Posted August 15, 2010 Darren, that may be true, but I have received (trackable) UPS packages from the States in padded envelopes before... I just thought it was a little (a lot) "overkill" and totally unecessary, that's all! P probably had something to do with the tracking and the minimum size of the package to be tracked. Quote
Giovanne Posted August 15, 2010 Posted August 15, 2010 They sent you a part for free and you don't like the box? Not sure how to take this posting? I have had nothing but splendid customer service from Orvis. Recycle or re-use the box, what is the big deal? Quote

Pipestoneflyguy Posted August 16, 2010 Posted August 16, 2010 Yeah, put it upside-down on your head and be thankful Orvis sent you a free hat Quote
ÜberFly Posted August 16, 2010 Author Posted August 16, 2010 Gee Rob thanks for the support P Yeah, put it upside-down on your head and be thankful Orvis sent you a free hat Quote
CDone Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 Face it, you saw a box that size and figured they sent you a couple reels or something, then you opened it and reality sank in Colin Quote
Heimdallr Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 Unlike some of the other people, I totally see the humour in, and the ridiculous nature of, the fact that the part was in such a large box. Furthermore, I understand that you weren't using the box as a slight against Orvis, but merely as an amusing observation. Quote
Taco Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 So how's the box workin' as a hat Peter or is it sized too big?? Quote
ÜberFly Posted August 17, 2010 Author Posted August 17, 2010 Just fine Taco, though I hope it doesn't rain while I'm wearing it!! P So how's the box workin' as a hat Peter or is it sized too big?? Quote
CDone Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 Just fine Taco, though I hope it doesn't rain while I'm wearing it!! P Just wrap it in tin foil, that will keep the rain out Quote

Giovanne Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 You will be the only dude with that kind of Orvis hat on the river, undoubtedly unique very environmentally friendly! You could even build an environmentally friendly drift boat with a bigger box Quote
ÜberFly Posted August 18, 2010 Author Posted August 18, 2010 And we all know how "trendy" things get in fly fishing!! P Quote
CDone Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 And we all know how "trendy" things get in fly fishing!! P Yup, pretty soon everyone will be extolling the virtues of the newest Loop box or GLoomis's re-design of the 'box' (which they will quickly have to recall due to the flaps not being the right size). I'm already outfitting my shop to build 'custom' boxes, where will it end. Quote
ÜberFly Posted August 18, 2010 Author Posted August 18, 2010 Don't forget all the controversy b/c the boxes are now manufactured off shore in sweat shops some where in Asia!! CDone Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 Don't forget all the controversy b/c the boxes are now manufactured off shore in sweat shops some where in Asia!! But I'll put Canada flags on them so they'll be fine. Quote
