annapolis Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 Hey, I'm thinking of buying a sage ZXL from a buddy. Any feedback on this rod would help me make my decision. Should I go with a z-axis or stick with this rod. Cheers, Kyle Quote
theboy Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 I would own another in a heartbeat....I sold mine only because I replaced it with an old sp for less money, however the ZXL 486 I had was a killer dry fly rod and I am sure I will buy or build one down the road. Quote
headscan Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 I think the ZXL and Z-Axis are almost opposite actions. Sage describes the Z-Axis as a fast action rod and the ZXL as "the relaxed casting rhythm of a smooth progressive taper." I'd go to a fly shop and test a Z-Axis then test your buddy's ZXL to see which you prefer before plunking any cash down. Quote
ÜberFly Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 I recently purchased a Sage LL and from what I've researched the ZXL uses (the same) or very similar blank and the LL has the reputation of being one of Sage's BEST ever (just what I've read)!! So I'm sure you won't be disappointed - especially if you get it for a good price! P Quote
