Sage: Skagit River Softshell Jacket

Recommended Posts

Does any one have one of these wading jackets. How heavy are they? Are they good for summer days when it is raining or would it be to hot? Or are they more of a spring, fall jacket?

Thanks Wayne

In my opinion it's more of fall/spring jacket, I have worn one and wouldn't want to carry it in the summer in a pack due to the volume it takes up. Plus it would be warm, really warm.

I had a client in the boat on friday wearing one when that storm came in and he got wet, just like most softshells after a few months of wear. I just received a new softshell on monday myself but I won't rely on it to be water proof. I purchased one of these this winter http://www.mec.ca/Products/product_detail....D=1272477313523 and I think it's ideal it packs up to the size of a coke can and fits comfortably over my soft shell.

It's a pretty heavy jacket, I use it during the winter with a hoody underneath, water resistant, not waterproof, and figure you'd melt in it in summer temps. Simms, Patagonia, etc all have light weight packable 100% waterproof rain jackets that would be much better for summer use and are designed to hold fly fishing gear. Pretty much any waterproof jacket with a few good sized pockets will work though.
