126barnes Posted December 9, 2009 Posted December 9, 2009 Wondering if there is anyone around that could thin out a grip (rod mounted) for me. I would be looking to get this done upon my return in the new year, rod is back home. PM if you can help. Quote
jack Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 My advise is do it yourself. Take an upright cardboard box, cut "V"s in opposing ends place the rod in the "V"s so the rod and cork grip will rotate. Start with 80 grit sand paper, rotate the cork while sanding vigorously(but without too much pressure). When the cork is reduced to where it will fit your hand, then just finish it with 180-220 grit and seal it with a water-based acrylic sealer. The handle has to "fit" your hand, so your hand has to be there! j Quote
DonAndersen Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 126barnes, I'm with jack on this - typically most handles are no greater than 1.010" OD and rarely smaller than 0.825" OD. Note - I said typically - of course there are always those that chose other sizes. Make sure you masking tape @ both ends of the handle. Sand paper run-off gets ugly fast. If you really want to get fancy- hammer handle the cork. Make it oval c/w thumb & little finger insets. Did it on one rod. Broke me of the habit of reel crawling. catch ya' Don Quote
