Ok so her is my dilemma. I currently have some extra cash and have been thinking that a new rod might be in order. I have been fly fishing for 3 years but I fish often. I currently have 9 foot 6 wt temple forks (the green ones haha). Before I buy a rod I plan on going to all the fly shops in town and cast rods from different manufactures and so on. Im not in the market to be spending tons of cash I think if I could find a rod under $400 but closer to $300 would be ideal. The other major question I will be looking to answer is.... will a higher end rod benefit me?What do you get out of a higher end rod i guess is what i really don't know!

All insight would be appreciated or if there are some rods you would recommend i would like to hear about it.

Thanks To All

If you're happy with your 6 wt instead of replacing it you could always go with a 4 wt or 8 wt instead. You may or may not notice a difference between your current 6 wt and a different one.

I agree.

I would recommend a hardy, or another TFO. My aunt gave me her 10 year old hardy rod a few years ago and it's still going strong, it's my favorite rod. I'm not sure what they're priced at though. My friend has a TFO, which is a good choice too. Good luck.

I would look for a "speciality" rod. Sounds like you are using that 6 wieght for just about everything, but you could get something for tossin dries, fat streamers, or nymphs. Personally do not think that tons of money needs to be spent on fly rods, but you gotta find something that suits your feel and what you wanna do with it. Like ya said, start making your rounds on the fly shops!

A higher end rod will give you less weight, and a more sensitive feel.

If I had a 6 and was looking for another rod it would between between a 3 or an 8. THe 8 can be used for hucking big streamers for bullies or the 3 can be used for small creeks. Fishing the 3 in the foot hills is a blast, you get great dry fly presentations and you can still cast smaller nymph rigs sans indication. Plus when you hook a juvi bull at 24" it's crazy.
