  1. Some good news..........About a week ago Police Lake received this years stocking...........Not 132,000 as in past years but 50,000----------TRIPLOIDS!!........Terry C. didn't expect trips for this year so that was indeed a pleasant surprise..........On a related note, I will post the Benchmark data on this Board as soon as it's compliled..........
  2. Looks like things are going more or less as they should........We still need ANGLERS to keep an eye on it an report infractions.......... Hi Al, It’s an interesting comment. I like the fact that this person talked to “one of the many CO’s”, particularly since I only had resources available to assign two officers to that part of the District this past weekend. At least they were visible. You can rest assured that officers have been assigned to patrol Police Lake on a regular basis, and that enforcement of the regulations is happening. When the officers observe a violation, it is acted upon, and not ignored. That said, officers are not going to be on site 24/7, and do rely on the public to report violations. Currently we are investigating one such report from this past weekend. As of May 18, Conservation Officers have instigated eight Enforcement Actions at Police Lake pursuant to the Alberta Fisheries Regulation. Most of these have involved fishing with bait. Thanks for your interest in this; please contact me if you have any further questions. George Yanicki District Conservation Officer Lethbridge District
  3. Thanks for the heads up..........I have sent a copy of this post along with a note to the Parks official in charge of Police Lake Provincial Park..........I know Parks are concerned about "confrontation" but I sure hope they are doing their job and making sure that those breaking the rules are getting written warnings if not tickets........
  4. Sorry Brian, I missed your post yesterday........Also sorry you couldn't make it out........Anyway, to answer your question, the plan was simply to "benchmark" the lake over the 3 days this weekend and then do a similar survey next year.....Startin this coming weekend, F&W will be running a creel survey at Police which will run until fall........Fishermen will be surveyed on catch rates as well as other questions and F&W will compile that data separately.........So, bottom line is no need to run any log sheets through the summer but hopefully you will get surveyed if you're there....... Cheers.... Al....
  5. I found a brown/grey brimmed hat with cjsw in green letters on the front at the boat launch at Police on Saturday night.......If it belongs to anyone who wants it back, send me a pm.....
  6. Right on Taco........Now that almost everyone is a couple of generations "away from the farm" their understanding of the food process and anything that has to do with blood is limited and slanted.....Also the attribution of human traits (logic, suffering, pain etc.) to animals of all kinds is skewed..........Do we know that fish feel pain??........At any rate, I, and I hope my grandkids will be long dead before the Swiss idiocy hits good ol red neck country..........
  7. That was my good friend Gordon Macleod from High River...........Bonefisher, egg cooker extraoridnaire and owner of "Norm" the infamous tiger torch for starting campfires........Norm has saved our lives a few times in the rain.......... Thanks to everyone who braved the elements and collected some great data...........Good to meet you all.......
  8. Ill be there by about 9:00 and I have LOTS of copies of the log sheets..........Track me down!!
  9. Brings back some sweet memories of our trip to Las Salinas in March........Thanks.....
  10. Don't let the crappy Calgry weather deter you!!..........Not a bad day here today and while tomorrow looks a little scratchy, Saturday will be nice---relatively speaking!!........Sunday has a 40% chance of being better than they say!!.......See you there!! http://www.weatheroffice.gc.ca/city/pages/...4_metric_e.html
  11. It's sunny and not bad in Lethbridge........Hope all the bad weather in Cowtown doesn't scare people away from Police Lake this weekend....
  12. Very sorry to hear this news..........Best wishes, Jim, for a full and quick recovery........The trout will be waiting for you!! Al....
  13. A few people showing up for one or more days but not as many as I'd hoped...........Surely the weather isn't scaring folks away as it doesn't look too bad.......... http://www.weatheroffice.gc.ca/city/pages/...4_metric_e.html I'll be bringing enough breakfast for those that have confirmed and alot more so hopefully we can have a good turnout.......I'll be wearing my dorky Scotland hat and fishing from an orange and black Colorado Pontoon boat with Trout Unlimited on the side, so if I haven't met you, you'll be able to find me........See you on the weekend!!
  14. Terry Clayton told me that as the supply of triploids gets larger the first places to get the stock are lakes where there are inlet/outlet streams and there are concerns about escapes and have a possibility of hybridization with cutts.........The next priority will be for delayed harvest or special regs fisheries like Bullshead, Fiesta, Police etc........ Nice post Jeff.....Good to hear the birds didn't get 'em all............(I actually thought they did these stockings after dark).....
  15. So I did my own little test fishery on Police yesterday..........It was a nice day---cloudy and about 16C with very little wind.....I worked from the launch all the way around the lake in my pontoon and caught fish everywhere........Mostly small acrobats that will be alot of fun by fall and even more fun next year!!..........A few fish in the 14"-16" range along the east bank which were false spawners..........Three big trumpeter swans made an appearance and there are lots of coots and geese as well as two pairs of loons and an opsrey............There are a pair of bald eagles nesting in a tree along the east shore and I spent quite a bit of time wathcing as they fished and then went back to the nest..........Couldn't see the little ones but I'm sure they are hatched out as the female didn't feel compelled to be on the nest all the time as she would be if she was on eggs.......Anyway, it was fun with lots of action and a beautiful place to be....... I will not be there until Saturday morning so for anyone heading down on Friday that can't stay until Saturday, PLEASE DOWNLOAD THE BENCHMARK SHEET FROM THE ORIGINAL POST and either give it to someone who is staying until Saturday and they can give it to me, or you can mail it to me at 137 Coachwood Point, Lethbridge T1K 6A6.......For those staying, I will be there until early Sunday afternoon and will collect all the forms I can before I leave and any I don't get can be mailed.....I will also have blank forms for anyone who needs them........... The breakfast will be from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and we will likely be up in about campsite 26 or thereabouts........I drive a red Tundra and we'll put up a sign so you can find us........The campsite is a bit rough at moment, as they've cleared out a bunch of bush and haven't got it all cleaned up yet.....However there is water available and the sites are dry-----believe it or not there is still a bit of snow kicking around in the shaded areas and north slopes!!..... Look forward to seeing everyone----looks like the turnout will be not bad----and your help in getting a good benchmark will be invaluable in measuring the success of the new regulations over the next few years.......... Al........
  16. Ditto from me Blair..........Eat some cake, catch some fish, contemplate your navel............Life's Good!!
  17. Lethbridge Hurricanes 4, Calgary Hitmen 2...........'Canes win Eastern Conference title, beating the Calgary Hitmen 4-0 in the final series..........The 'Canes will now face the winner of the Western Conference, either the Tri City Americans or the Spokane Chiefs......The winner of that series will advance to the Memorial Cup in Kitchener, Ontario.........Go 'Canes Go!!!
  18. Right on both counts Yak........As for the Flames, I fully agree with Bloom's comment that if they lose at least they can get rid of Keenan (and hopefully Sutter soon)........His pull of Kipprusoff last night was typical.............B.S but typical..........He's ridden Kipper all season and if it weren't for Kipprusoff the flames would have been cluttering up the golf courses weeks ago........(not in Alberta of course) :0
  19. Now it's Luca Sbisa and Mitch Versteeg handing out the crushers and if you could see Boychuck, Fadden, Braes and Iwanski skate you might change your mind on Byron........Go Canes GO!!.......... Al....
  20. Oh, and by the way, Lethbridge Hurricanes 6, Calgary Hitmen no score............
  21. Doesn't look like we'll have an energy outage due to defibrillation..........
  22. Based on the above, I'm calling bullshit....... I do hope they win---I'll be watching my Hurricanes hang a beating on the Hitmen---and let's hope Calgary "fans" will have alot more class than the morons in Montreal..........
  23. There's trouble then........I've worked in the banking industry for over 30 years, alot of which has been with agricultural based firms and experience says that when a company get's into an unrelated field (and sure you can say that retailing is retailing) that is other than their core business, they will fail..........It will be interesting, and perhaps painful, to watch...........
  24. Didn't mean to hijack your post Jeff and also meant to compliment you on some great photography........Maybe it's the Police Lake thing or StreamWatch but I just have NO tolerance for poaching and while I'm sure Jermie made the comment in jest it just hit me the wrong way...........Nice work on the photos..... Al.....
