  1. ugh .. I'll bring the gear just in case ... you never know. Stew
  2. Just adding in another comment/request. I am rolling into Calgary this Friday and will be there for 3 or 4 days. Are things going to be so blown out that I should not waste my time bringing my gear? Stew
  3. Nice story and congratulations on the first brown. They are perhaps my most favourite trout. Stew
  4. Great shots! Did you mention the type of camera you're using?
  5. Would Seattle be SW :-) .... I grew up in the SW so I put that in.
  6. Hawg .. I was in a boat with you last fall when two, what shall I call them ... dick weeds ... zipped between us and the bank ... when there was plenty of room on the other side. They were just in some sh*t motor boat but ruined part of an otherwise great day. Stew
  7. Here's a post from back on august 19th. THis was the weirdest/best outage from here in Washington. "Two nights ago I headed out to the Cedar to fish my normal haunt. It was truly a banner night with 6 fish landed, no dinks amongst them, 4 of them being in the beefy +15inch range (okay beefy for me). So largest fish of the night hooked just at the edge of darkness / dusk. Now this looked like one of the largest fish I'd ever caught on the Cedar, so out comes the camera for a hero shot. Next think I know with all the commotion of taking a picture and getting the fly out of the fish mouth, plop downs go the camera and also the rod. I quickly grab the camera and flip around to grab the rod – gone. The current had taken it away. I spent the next 25 minutes looking downstream for the rod in the dark with my light. No luck - this just happens to be my favorite 3 wt (St. Croix) and reel (Vosseler) so I am a bit devastated. So a banner night of large fish on the Cedar is ruined in a couple careless moments. So what to do next, post something in lost and found? No not right away. I got up early yesterday morning and hit the river in day-light before work. Took my trusty backup 3wt and fished my way down to the spot where I had lost the rod. I think spent the next 45 minutes scouring down to about 100 yards downstream of where the rod was lost. My efforts were fruitless - nothing. In disgust I head back upstream haven given up. About 80 yards downstream of the spot I lost the rod I went over to a part of the river that looked like it had a one inch cable running from behind a rock (thinking perhaps it would be tangled up in it or something). When I got closer, the cable turned out to be no cable (optical illusion) but was some green fly line (mine) .. gave it a tug and my rod came floating to me! Woohoo .. redemption." Stew
  8. If you're lucky like me you can take the ferry over to the factory and drop it off :-)
  9. Get over it .. fork over the dough to fish the water and enjoy. Price we have to pay to fish some glorious water. At least that is my perspective from the Seattle area. I drop by the Elk once a year on my pilgrimage back home and would not hesitate to drop the coin to enjoy it.
  10. Voted Ross but my current favourite is Vosseler ... I picked up a RC2L for a new Sage 3wt I bought this year. Love that reel. Stew
  11. Yes, makes me wonder why I moved 900 miles to Seattle :-) ... massive trout on the Bow.
  12. Thanks to those who provided some information on rivers and such. We are heading back to the Seattle area today and had fun on the Elk, Crowsnest and Bow. Managed many cutts on the Elk and many fish on the Crow. The Bow was bit more of a challenge. We managed 2 browns, 3 rainbows and one monster white fish that measured 21 inches (largest I have seen). The float of the Bow was fun - saw many large fish and wish we landed more. My son landed the large white fish and a large rainbow - he had fun. Again, thanks to those who provided input. Stew
  13. Thanks for the heads up. Current plans are to fish the Elk and Crowsnest for 3-4 days then hit Flamesville for some decent Chinese food and a Peter's Burger. Not to mention Glamorgan Bakery for their sausage roll - ah the things you miss while away ... Mac
  14. Much appreciated. Not certain of arrival date since we're fishing the Elk and Livingstone on the way up.
  15. Visiting family back in the old home town. Looking to fish the Bow and maybe the Elbow the week of the 13th and I have a couple of questions.. I see from some of the reports that the water is a bit warm. Should we plan on early morning and late evening fishing? It has been a while since I fished the Bow (6-7 years) and I will be without a boat so looking for some suggestions on wading areas. Heck even some advice on a guide or two. Any help appreciated. BigMac in Seattle
