  1. I got a 5wt Temple fork outfitter i got at the Fly Expo and a prism reel and was wondering what kind of line i would require to fish deep speckled trout?

Any Special Flies or Techniques that would help me out?

    Thanks

I assume you are talking lakes, I would go with sink tips or a sinking line which I prefer.

  2. Here's a different perspective. Given the rate of anything actually ever happening between bears and humans, how ridiculously low % that truly is, and given what I now know about ticks and Lyme disease, I'd encourage everyone to spend far more time learning about ticks and Lyme disease and taking steps to prevent it. I got it sharing a hotel room with people with dogs after being on the water for a few days - got a tick on me while sleeping. AJ had one in her bely and 2 other tcks crawling on her in one day, though she luckily and thankfully avoided Lyme. With 20,000 cases in the US each year and having had first hand experience at how it can impact you, I would strongly suggest that the likelihood of Lyme infection and lasting long term impacts of it are FAR more likely than the fear mongering realities of any bear incident. Ticks & Lyme are at least as far north as Rocky Mtn House, having had quite an infestation in the Caroline area last year. And given the lingering tingles and twitches from my experience with it last spring, which is mild compared to most cases, it's something that can be avoided. With what Kathryn Maroun (What A Catch tv show) is going through with Lyme and what I've gone through, and what I've been told about from 3 other people I know, it's something to spend more time educating yourselves about than worrying about being the one angler every 10 yrs to get mauled by a bear, no offense to them or their families - just offering perspective. Sorry for the hi-jack, though this thread's been off on other tangents already.

    Cheers

    Super post

  3. Hey everyone, on my recent trip to Calgary a couple weeks ago i decided to pck up some flexament to give it a try. Just curios if anyone has any tips on using it.

I also picked up the thinner, for those that use it do you thin it right away for regular use?

When using it to coat feathers for shellbacks etc? do you just brush it on the feather lighly? thin it first?

Also another semi related question, What aplicator bottles do you all like? I wanna get an aplicator bottle as I do not like the container the flexament comes in.

    Thanks for any info.

to use it properly lay down a base of tying cement, it insures that it doesn't soak into the materials for things like shellbacks. I use a needle to apply it when I use it.

  4. So my friends and I are planning a 2 night backpacking/fishing trip this summer. I’m 15 and my friends are 16 and we are all in grade 10. We are thinking about doing the cataract creek loop. We are all very skilful with camping, bush craft, and hiking. We are also very responsible and know all the rules. We think it’s a good idea however…my parents won’t let me go… what do you guys think? <--poke--<

    Respect your parents

  5. I've spent a good deal of time in the woods in many provinces and states over my last 63 years. Fishing, hunting and for a number of years guiding. Encountered a great many bears of all kinds and temprements, experienced a few false charges over that time. Common sense prevails in the end. I think most of the bear paranoia comes from the very inexperienced about the outdoors and the immature.

  6. i think the 7/9 will be fine for the MD 510 ive bin using a 8/11 classic lately on the 510 MD use to use my runner but have bin balancing my rods headier on the bottom to feel more balanced when forming the d loop... rather than the traditional way... im not afan of super heavy on the bottom but getting more that way.. i find it helps me work less with similar effort!

That's what I found, I love the way the runner picks up line fast but wish is was a bit heavier. Nice thing about the Classic.

  7. i think it gives a better swimging action in the water like when you tie your streamer to loop. i have also heard of some deteioration occuring at the "soft eye" causing them to fail under stress, is this true?

Never experienced the stress thing that at all. Always use a loop to loop, maybe that's the difference.
