Kungfool,
I use different anchors depending on bottom substrate.
For flowing water, I like a 10 lb. mushroom that can be tipped over and digs into the bottom.
For stillwaters c/w mud bottom a 5>7 lb. flat lead works fine. For sand/rock bottoms I increase the anchor weight to 10 lbs. For lakes like Bullshead where the wind can really blow, A claw type anchor maybe the only one that holds.
NOTE: If you like chasing your boat, get a downrigger ball and use it on flowing water.
Like everything, there are no "right" answers.
Don
Thanks for the info Don.
I was looking at the mushroom style online before your post, and was wondering if it had any advantage over a pyramid. I plan on doing mostly rivers with this boat and use my Fatcat on the smaller lakes like Beaver. I trust your judgement and will likely pick up the mushroom for the rivers (10-12 lb). I dont typically fish windy area lakes so I tihnk I can get away without the claw for now but Ill keep it in mind for future trips.
See you at your office this spring!

Oh, almost forgot. Anyone have a suggestion on anchor weight and/or styles?
I set the boat up on Sunday and found out it doesn't come with one.

I prefer the suspender style of inflatable as they are fairly comfortable in hot weather and in cooler weather you can fit them over top of heavier clothing. As far as reliability, I can't say as I never had to use it (knock on arborite).
Regards Mike
Thanks Mike. I'm unfamiliar with suspender style inflatables. What brand do you use? Did you buy it here in Calgary?

I'd get a spare oar lock along with those oar rights. If you break/lose an oar lock, it can make for a long day.
This sounds like great advice. I will pick an extra of each up. Did you break one off yourself?
-
Oh thought these were oar locks not oar rests. The oar rests sound like a good idea as well. Thanks.

A couple of things i would suggest,
Lay down some screen or mesh all around the seating area before you attach the seat, this helps to catch anything you drop also makes storage a little better. On mine i extended it in front of the seat about a foot i have a bungee cord across the frame to hold it up.I like this better then the bib.
Love this idea already. Ill look into this for sure.
thanks!

Thanks for taking the time guys. Ill definitely get a good PFD, the flippers, an anchor and the oar locks.
For the PFD I was thinking on a CO2 inflatable. Never used one, and not sure if they are reliable. Anyone use one? Here is the one I'm looking at:

Hey guys,
Just picked up a PAC 900 FS today (still in the box) and was wondering if any of you guys have any recommendations or advice on setting it up, and/or modifications or add-ons you would recommend. Plan to use in on both still and running water of course. Looking forward to hearing from any of you!
Cheers!

Some beautiful stuff there!

It's the marketing genius of the NHL. I for one would like to see some of the management of the NHL get beat with a pillowcase full of wrenches.

I certainly save money on the flies I use that I tie however I tie so many, and so many variations that I have 1000 times more flies than I need so I wouldn't say I'm saving money overall

Hope you had a great b-day Rick! Glad to hear you hit the slopes Saturday too. What a wicked weekend to be skiing.

Just what I needed! Thanks for helping me momentarily shake the winter blues!

This is what happens when the winters are cold and long... my new avatar says it all!

I got a call from a very good friend who knows I'm in my 50s as well and fish in Mackenzie fairly often. He called to check in after he heard the story.
Prayers to the fellow's family. Very sad.
I just heard about this 15 minutes ago and checked the boards for the same reason Rick.
Sorry to hear about this gentlemen.

There's just two things I like about this movie.......

Friend of mine caught this in a BC lake. Anyone know what it is?
I cant be sure Rick but Ill stick my neck out and say its a fish of some sort!

Well done sir!

Wait, don't you already know all of mine? Seems the information has been traveling one way! I promise I won't bonk any fish if you tell me your spots.
I don't have that sweet looking brown stream you and Ben fished recently....

And now for the downside.
Was at a lake in the spring catching many 2-5 pound rainbows on Chonies I tied the day before. A lady fly fisher showed up amongst the bait fishermen (who were not catching) and started casting from shore about 100 feet from where I was floating. She started to make comments about leaving some fish for everyone else to catch (jokingly). I had a chuckle and said try Chronies, black, around size 16 and offered her a couple. She said "thanks but I should have something like that in my box". After around 30 more minutes of slamming fish she still had not caught one and spoke up again saying "Ill take one of those flies now!".
I moved to shore and gave her 3 and said I'm getting them at 18 feet 6 inches from the bottom and its 15 feet deep where your casting (I had measured) and suggested getting down to the bottom. As soon as she rigged up and the fly sank boom fish on. I was like right on there ya go and felt good until she got it to shore. Bonk! I was like oh crap. She started catching fish every couple of minutes and bonked the first 5 that I saw. I have no problem with people keeping a fish once in a while but I felt directly responsible for these 5.
