  1. 5x tippet is not really strong. its great for fishing dries or when the fish are picky.

but i would use something stronger i use 1x most of the time for nymphing.

and 5x for dry fly fishing. sometimes lighter

and i dont think tippet will ever go bad.. if it does it would take a hell of a long time.

  2. i picked up a reel the other day at springbrook when i was picking up a new rod.

it was 75$ its has center drag. the guy in there told me they were shiped there by accident.

its made by the people that make redingtons reels. and is supposed to sell for 150 area.

not to sure how its going to hold up, ive fished it maybe 6 or 7 times since i picked it up.

it has no noise when you reel it in so you can just spin it and pick up line in a hurry.

im very happy with it so far and the guy said it should do me good. i looked it over and it looks very well built.

right now it has 150yrds of backing and my line. it could easily fit another 100yrds maybe more.

you might want to check it out

  3. Don't yank on your TFO when you get it stuck in the trees, they break easily, LOL

its funny you say the they break easily... i have had my tfo a year and it took driving over it to break it..

i fished it more then 100 days and never had a problem... and im sure it would have lasted alot longer.

  4. there are a ton of places you can fish from shore.

but waders make it much easier.

you can also rent waders from the university out door program center.

its in the nw of the city and its 10$ a day

they have multi day rental deals.

    7 days for 40$

  5. correct me if im wrong but in barry mitchels book does he not tell a story about fishing the waipours area.

and how he has given up on it because it doesnt produce many if any fish?

i have fished waipours and i my self wouldnt recomend fishing it.

there are much better smallers rivers and creeks to fish that you can have a ton of fun on!

  6. Guys,

You want movement - the best SJW I've used was nothing more than a rubber rubber band tied on a hook. Cheap too!

    Don

    hey don

do you twist up your rubber bands and then tie them onto the hook?

i tied a few like this but have yet to use them.

  7. haha... I gotta dig up that pic somewhere. and the japanese koi I got .... get a koi Maxwell, and you will have joined the ranks of the mighty multi species, all kinds of weird fish, plus I catch panties and a bra the same spot 15 minutes apart. You'll never attain such glory! :clapping:

lol bra and panties in 15 min! thats nuts!

the other day i pulled out a neclace, towel and 3 tennis balls in a few hours.

i was looking for the weirdest catch thread and couldnt find it...

    can anyone help?

  8. well it doesnt sound like she will be using it much.

most cell phone providers sell airtime in 10 25 and 50$ ammounts

the 10$ card expires after 30 days. the 25 and 50 after 60days

im with telus and the rate is 25cents a min. they round up to the next min even if you only use 9 seconds.

im with telus because for 2$ a day i get unlimited incoming calls and evenings and weekends free starting at 6pm.

fido offers per second billing. so you are only charged for what you use.

only there 50$ card lasts 60 days. but they dont offer as good of packages as telus or rogers

you can purcahse a cheaper phone at london drugs on telus from 50-100$

they give you a 50$ sign up credit on your account. im not to sure if fido or rogers offers this.

hope this helps, now off to work :chainsaw:

  9. Here's a link to a site with a river tank set up.

    http://www.geocities.com/river_tank/

    And some chiller plans:

    http://www.guarriello.net/chiller.htm

Chillers are very pricey, but by the time you are done building one it may work out to be the same. I’m not sure

    http://www.aquariumpros.com/c-CHdi.html

But just as MTB said, if it's in the basement it will be fine.

I have a 90G salt tank on the 3rd level of a 4 level and it stays fairly even as far as temp goes.

Only on the hottest days does it climb a few degrees. At that point a fan turns on to help cool it off. If it gets too high throw in some ice cubes.

(One other thing keep the sun off it or you will be scraping algae off constantly.)

I have a few canister filters and a couple Aqua clear 500's that I don't need.

They are just taking up shelf space at the moment.

(As a matter of fact, if you want upgrade to a 125 gallon.....) :)

hell if he doesnt take this i would love to pick it up!

i had a 250 gallon tank a few years ago.

the movers broke it during a move and havent had a tank since.

i could deffinattly put it to great use!

  10. the fish and wildlife guys i talked to figured it would still be frozen over and i didnt want to show any of my friends where it was.

i fished the pond for 30 min and vizibility was less then an inch.

managed a 14" bow striping a bugger along the banks.

i really hope champion was untouched this weekend

  11. I think the City of Calgary needs to step up and through a giant party on Long-weekends. From the news clips it looked like Mclean was the site of a second spring break...

Maybe have a giant music fest and in-town parties... lots of scantly clad girls selling shooters will keep people in the city. Also have a section of land with a couple big mud pits... peole can bring their toys, show off, not spend the gas on the 22x, and just tear up stuff. After its done they can just use that land for the bypass around the city, cause there'll be no vegetation left. They make money and save on hiring contractors to clear the construction area. Win win

there are a ton of partys through out the year like this already. but nothing on the long weekend.

there are also 6 or more clubs in the city that have exactly that...

if people wanted to kick off there summer in the city im sure they would have stayed..

there is also a mud pit in the city that people with trucks and stuff frequent.

i think its illegal though but it wouldnt take much for the city to purchase the land.

those are some great ideas though, keep them coming!

  12. im back from the weekend and i can say its much better then it was in previous years...

the people partying on global news were me and my group of friends, you didnt see the quads and bikes because they were parked behind the trailer.

the partying shot came from saturday, they came back yesterday and took shots of us cleaning.

i also did a 5 min interview... which was cut down to one line haha. incase your wondering the lady asked how we kept our camp toghter with so many people. and i told her that we have learnt from our mistakes and we are growing up and getting more organized.

i was camped in fisher east of mclean creek and everything went pretty well! all fences i saw were still standing. all the creek crossings that were there from people "playing" in the creek looked dry and not used.

i cant speak of the other areas of mclean because i didnt not venture that far.

i spoke with every rcmp, conservation, fish and wildlife and forestry guy i saw. from what i hear from them the weekend went pretty well.

the rcmp stoped in our camp twice to thank us for keeping clean. there were young kids (10ish) from the neibour camp that spent more time in our camp then there own... a quick shot of people screaming for the camera doesnt mean that they are the ones causing the problems..

out of the nearly 50 people in our camp one was given a ticket for failure to produce insurance and regerstration. he was riding a friends quad and didnt know it was all under the seat... ticket was torn up as soon as the fish and wildlife came back by on his quad.

so now you know that what you saw on the news was not illegal what so ever and we cleaned up our crap.

i agree that something needs to be done in the area or its going to be devistated in the next 10 years if people cant learn to stay on trails etc.

i personally didnt see anyone off trail or where they shouldnt be.

the policing of the area this weekend was top notch, maps were availibale for people so they knew what areas they are allowed to use and which they are not. i spoke with a few forestry guys and mentioned keeping track of plate numbers on cars as long as the gps corrodinates to help figure out who is responsible for the mess if one is left. he was going to pass on the idea.

i will be back out there this week to help with clean up of the area. i will know more about how things went when i get back.

  13. I just got back from mclean creek, we were out setting up camp...

so far everything is looking pretty good out there.

saw a few cops out already. we picked up a bag of garbage from the trees around the camp.

must have been there from last year..

there were some fences put up around wetlands and creek areas.

lets see if they last the weekend...

    anyways back on track here.

are you looking to have random camping banned in the areas?? or are you looking for more enforcement to ensure people use the marked trails, pick up after them selfs and act like civil human beings?

i will take some pictures this weekend... butt i dont think you should only be pointing out the bad.

i hate seeing it trashed just as much as you... but by only showing one side is pretty bias.

there are alot of responsible people that use these areas that follow ALL the rules.

and they should not be punished having the areas taken away.

i would say that there are a good 50 000 people that camp on crown land in southren alberta on long weekends...

where would all these people go if the areas are shut down?

i think you would be pretty hard pressed to find a camp ground with open spots any where south of red deer...

will there be an alternative? maybe build controled camp sites in the area that make $$$ to go into the rehabilitation of the area?

the waipiours area has cleaned up faily well since the ban on trucks last year.. i think with some proper managment of the other areas things will clean up... maybe instead of 2 grand for tickets they should be increased to 5 or more!

anyways im beat and headed to bed, everyone have a great weekend and hopefully things go well!

    tightlines

    chris
