Sidebar question, and sorry to hijack the thread, but does anyone have a recommendation for a good wading boot that also doubles as a good hiking boot? My Patagonia foot tractor predecessors are way too heavy, clunky, & blister producing for serious boot miles. Ideally, I would like a boot that is good on the trail with wading socks, so I don't have to pack wading boots in addition to the hiking boots strapped to my feet. For hiking & wet wading, I used my hiking boots along with keens last year, but want something for double duty that I can use with waders.

I don't even like having new rowers on my oars in rough stretches of water when I am in the boat, and would never let them borrow my boat without experience. Especially if said new rower is enjoying a few beers. Could get ugly. -
Nice shots. You made it to bullocks! That place is awesome - the service, well, not so much...

Our Day In Court Approaches....

X2Great work Jordan for drumming up support and media around this issue. But it stings to hear these guys got their gear back, to poach another day. Sustenance is a poor excuse when we have put & take fisheries, some not far from Lethbridge, take your limit from them - I hope at least they were educated about these opportunities. -
These are on sale now for 399 from 499 on their website, FYI.

It was a didymo fest last night with that flow bump - had to clean the snot off my fly almost every cast.

I never got a call regarding convictions, but I did cash in on my reward - $300! Not sure where the proceeds are going yet. Maybe 2 nights motel and 2 shuttles in Fernie/Craig/some other long weekend locale?... Makes the sting of busting that douche go away a bit, for sure. -

Let's hope the people managing this project can actually keep on budget! I highly doubt it. No offense to anyone involved. 890 million? I am taking the over. Like 2-3x budget, over. Especially if oil prices pick up and many of our best tradesmen head back to the Mac... -
Sorry to hear. I think we are planning on staying up a night so hopefully we get some breaks in the wind...

Hey all, Finally got around to planning my first golden trout trip. Thought I would canvas the forum to see if anyone has any helpful fly recommendations? Not sure if it will be primarily a chironimid party or whether there are other hatches I should prepare for up in the alpine. Would like to be well stocked as I have heard they can sometimes be finicky, and I have a few days to spin some golden food up. Thanks in advance.

I have the Patagonia predecessor to the foot tractor and while they have amazing grip on snotty rocks, they are heavy and also didn't break in very well. I ended up with gnarly blisters in a few places at the end of my NZ trip this year. Hopefully they have improved this. Nothing bad to say about my korkers, haven't tried Simms yet.

No clue what he is looking at fine-wise, but from my count, could be looking at 4 offences - no license, using bait, and 2x fish outside the legal size limit. If I get any news on conviction and penalties, I will post an update for sure. -

Went down tonight to fish a downtown stretch near my place in bridgeland - find a guy there fishing in a favourite seam, and walk over to ask about the fishing. He tells me "It's great! I got two nice rainbows!" And points to a black garbage bag... Which clearly was filled to a distance longer than 30 cm. Very pissed and offended, i called it in. (The knob was taking fish out of a favourite hole in a beat I pretty much learned how to fly fish at, which doesn't tend to hold too many fish too begin with!! I got my first brown there) Anyways, he was fishing with bait, without a licence, rainbows were over the size limit, and he had two of them. The officer was very grateful and thanked me for calling it in. I was thrilled the guy stayed long enough that the COs were able to make it in time. Time for a letter to my MLA. Would really like to see more enforcement. Personally, I wouldn't even care if I had to pay triple the cost for my licence if it meant more enforcement, we seem to need it. Keep your eyes peeled for a-holes.- 37 replies

Sweet video, and nice lakers! Thanks for sharing. I wonder if my 7 weight could cast a dipsy diver?

Crossing The Border Into Montana
TroutPanther replied to fishinhogdaddy's topic in General Chat - Fishing Related
I was down over the long weekend on the Mo and had no issues getting through. I washed my boat beforehand, and afterwards on the way back before the border crossing. One thing you want to make sure you have handy is the proof of purchase for boat and trailer as well as the trailer registration, as I have been asked for this every time coming back to Canada. They had a boat inspection station on the AB side of the border at Coutts. Good to see. Let's hope they keep it up. -
I echo this sentiment. I have a one piece 7wt Zenith that is just awesome. Can launch heavy lines and double streamer rigs with ease. I feel a lot more accurate with it than I did chucking and ducking with a 6 wt, and it has enough sensitivity to be accurate in tight spots. The downside is obviously transportation, but it is fine to carry in the boat. Since buying it, I have had my eye on a Titan rod vault to make the whole process easier... Just haven't yet been able to justify spending the cash.

Shuttle Companies On The Bow

It sounds like they are ceasing operations. I don't get the impression that they are selling, but I haven't gotten in touch with Michelle except via email to arrange to pick up my keys, so I could be wrong. -
Hey all, Just wanted to canvas the forum and ask whether people have a good recommendation for a shuttle company. I got an email yesterday from Michelle, who I have used for the last 4 years, saying she is ceasing operations. She and Armand have been great. Anybody use Mel's service or anyone else in town they would recommend? Thanks

Hey all, Dig all the ties. Some impressive stuff on here, and creative tiers. Just a reminder to mash your barbs before you tie, if you are tying anything articulated. Just one lapse in concentration and a size 1 hook in your thumb mames you change habits pretty quick: http://s1167.photobucket.com/user/Michael_Richard_Van_Appelen/media/Mobile%20Uploads/image_zpsvro2ldal.jpg.html

Going South To Winter Fish?
TroutPanther replied to billie's topic in General Chat - Fishing Related
The Mo is a good bet - it's a fun fishery. It might be worth calling one of the fly shops down there to see when the bows leave the main stem to spawn (usually a bit earlier than up here). It's probably about 6 hrs to Craig when you include the border crossing, which can sometimes lengthen your time.
