  1. Thanks everyone for the kind words, It was a fun day! The Raccoons are a rare sight on the Bow, I had heard stories but had never witnessed them. They were very fun creatures to watch. We pulled in and filmed them for awhile as they turned rocks, ate leeches, and peeled caddis tubes. Busy little things. I was impressed by the pair but i hear they have a bad reputation. Anyone else see Raccoons on the Bow, i heard a story of some dudes waistpack and sandwich getting nabbed by a coon when he left it on shore near the weir.
  2. Hello Fishing Friends, I have been up to more editing and have completed another vid. This one is our home water on the south Bow River below Jensens. A perfect day with my first ever sighting of Racoons on the Bow. Also, how not to unload a driftboat... Trouttrek kept me laughin super hard all day and the fish were willing and easy. One of my favorite day's of the year. i could fish the Bow River every day of the year and never ever grow tired of it. We are so very lucky to have a great trophy trout river like this so close to home. I hope you enjoy the latest edition in the Humblefisherman series. Bow River Rockets watch it in HD by clicking the HD button. Pause it a second after it starts and let it load up for awhile to avoid stalling. Happy viewing and thanks for watching!
  3. I don't keep many fish in my travels, but i think it's fine to reap the spoils of the art from time to time. When i was a kid fishing rivers with my Pops, we would walk a section of river and would often keep our limit. Our killing technique was simple and quick. Find a oval stone half the size of your fist, give two good whacks on the head slightly behind the eye's on the back of the skull, theres a softer spot where the skull ends and the body begins. It's an instant kill most times and you'll know because the trout will vibrate like a cell phone. Put it back in the water for a moment for the soul to release... and then get down to business. A fast clean after the kill is the secret to fresh fish. That being said, cut the fish down the belly from it's whoo-hoo to it's gills. This is done while it's upside down in your hand, and with it's head facing away from you. Once you reach the triangular skin between the gills, cut in front and behind the gills in an upward fashion. Then just simply pull them out from the body of the trout and the guts will come along with it via the food tube. Run a thumbnail down the spine inside the cavity and remove the black **** you possibly can and then rinse . Check inside the stomach itself to see what the fish is eating. Then, throw the guts to the river as offering to the resident Bull Trout. Find a stick that is shaped like a Y and feed an arm of the branch in the gill and out the mouth, then break or cut the branch an inch above the mouth. Pin the branch under a stone to keep the fish in the cool water while you fish. If you have to walk some distance over dry land, wrap in grass or place in a creel. We would sometimes leave fish in the river with the branch end pinned under the rocks, and gather the fish as we came back... but when we lost a few to the Crows, that put an end to that. We rarley saw people along the backcountry rivers in those days. It was a treat for my Pops to at the heart raw, although i don't advise it... Fish was usually eaten for breakfast, we would batter it in Coyote pancake mix, then fry it in a pan with a little butter. Squeeze a bit of lemon, sprinkle some pepper and eat. Once in awhile we would eat on site, but would usually do this run early morning and feed the family breakfast. Last year I ate two river livin fish , and two alpine lake livin fish. All eaten in this manner on location, all delicious. I tend to leave the domestics and eat the imports but will eat a cutt on occasion. My mom used to make a whitefish stew that would soften all those little bones. We would do a fall Highwood River whitefish run to supply her with the contents. I miss those day's. I have noticed i catch less fish the day after the fishy meal, not sure why that is. Once i *hit, the lucks is right back to normal. I'll get out and give you and Jayhad a troutside demo lunch on my favorite brookie stream this year to repay you for the awesome shoreside you put on for me last year. Thanks again boy's. The steak and veggies was superb. Hope this helps Jer.
  4. ya man it's tricky, the only way to get around it is to make it 100% original content.
  5. Thanks man, i love getting feedback bhurt, and i have a few movies in the edit bay that "Rock" a lot harder than most of my vids to date. Should be right up your alley. I do have to be careful tho, each of videos I have posted with music from big lables get muted. In a matter of weeks i get an email for youtube telling me that my video has been muted due to copyright laws. So far they have taken down, Falling for Cutts, Mia on the Bow, and the Gift of Spring. I have had to change music on many other vids countless times. I'm sure they'll take them all down sooner or later. It seems the more modern and popular the music, the faster it gets targeted and removed. Since i havn't made any money with the series, or taken any sponsors, there is no reason for them to sue. I hope not anyway. In my life, I am surrounded by talented musicians. It's only a matter of time before we get organized and start writing music for each episode. I think were going to give it a try for a few of the trips we have planned for 2009. I'm a hack, but camera man Cory and his brother seriously rip it up, and as it turn out, my brother is a sound engineer. If and when it all falls into to place... it'll be sweeeeet. Till then I guess i'll just have to keep poachin songs mwahahahaha!
  6. me too. I pretty sure he reads the board, What did you think Mike?
  7. instead of saying Why did you do that? He'll now be saying Why did you post that???
  8. Thanks Tightline, there are a total 46 in cyberspace. The easiest way to watch them all is to go to: www.youtube.com/humblefisherman then click the (46) beside where it say videos in the top left corner of the pane that holds the 9 movies. That will display 3 windows that have all 46 movies in order from newest to oldest. If you want to see where it all began try watching them from the very beginning which is the slideshow called "the Humblefisherman". Some of the early ones are kinda shat quality but they all have a special place in my heart. All are filmed in western Canada, most within 2 hours of Calgary. Have fun dude.
  9. Haha, We were all laughing super super hard, and the more we laughed the more choked he got. He's allright with it now tho i think... Oh wait a minute, he hasn't seen the movie yet... mwahahahah. I'm sure i'll be getting a call shortly....
  10. Hello friends, Ive posted this after a quick re edit and some moral searching. The title explains it, mostly... Poor Mike... sorry buddy but it had to be done. Kinda mean, and i felt a little bad... but not really. I was too busy laughing... It was a warm day, and he could probably use a bit of a wash down there. There is a bigger story behind this movie, but this will have to do for now, In my defence tho... "is it deeper than it looks!?" "Not really, bout as deep as it looks." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9t6EeADlCPo Remember to click the Hd button and pause it. Let it load up a bit before playing to have the best viewing experience. Thanks for watchin, The Humblefisherman
  11. I didn't mean yikes to your post Dr, i was yikesin the fact that there is another Jay Jones on the Forum, when i was in Grade 10 there was yet another Jay Jones in my school that beat me up cause we had the same name. When i saw his handle i was like... yikes. sorry for the hijack
  12. just so everyone knows this is not me. Just some other guy that has the same name. And JayJJones11. Not sure if this was intentional or not, but i would appreciate if you changed your handle so you don't go around making me sound like an A-hole. Thanks.
  13. I have three of these boats and have owned them for 5 years now, still as good as they day i bought them after 250 + day's on the water. I own two grizzlies and a kodiak. In my Humble opinion they are hands down the best kickboat around. The Grizz is a little smaller and probably better suited for someone under 6 foot. The Kodiak is a little longer and it elongated to minimize drag on the water, I have a deal worked out with Watermaster to buy boats just over cost as they have used my videos for promo events. I don't think anyone is selling these boats in Canada yet, as the last time i talked to them they were looking for a local canadian distribution outlet. Drop me a PM if anyone is looking for one of these boats or wants to see one up close and personal. Total weight with oars, pump and dry bags is around 60 pounds. Toss in your waders vest boots and lunch and it's quite a workout.
  14. Sorry>>> the video was removed to do a quick edit. I'll repost it soon enough.
  15. This movie was filmed shortly after the floods subsided and as many of you know the fishing can be hit or miss. I took the Mikes into one of my favorite cutbow sections only to find it muddied up. We had already put in a full day of fishing higher up and it was one of those day's where you couldn't even buy a fish. So... out comes the double bunny. After the first fish was landed the mikes got excited and i was forced to yeild my position to the less fortunate pair. This is where the comedy begins and my story ends... hope you all enjoy this episode of the Humblefisherman. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O1GkOfUBcCk Be aware that there are a few swears and someone gets water in his underwares. lol in advance... Sorry Mike. Mwahahahaha
  16. Hello friends, I put the finishing touches on our latest vid today, and took into consideration much of the input i have received from this forum. Thanks to all of you for your positive input and support in previous posts. "Stimulation" was filmed in the midst of a golden stone hatch. We headed north by north west seeking out dry fly action in the heat of the day. Some may know this spot but it is secret to many. This creek, like most we have filmed, have been overlooked for years. Just how we like it! I hope you all enjoy the latest edition in the Humblefisherman series. For the best viewing experience, hit the hd icon near the view counter and let it start to play for a second, then pause it. Being paused will allow the video to load up and avoid any "loading" you may otherwise experience during the video. Thanks for watching,
  17. I figured as much Birchy. Don't worry, I'll be putting two back this spring. If anyone can find the location of that clip there will indeed be two beers in the slot sometime after mid June. Finding those two beers made my day.
  18. Thanks Kungfool, I agree... lots of what's on t.v. is garbage. My ultimate goal has alway's been to take this thing as far as i can. The last few movies will be submitted in a package that will be going out to some of the larger networks in the coming weeks wfn is one of them. I will be producing a total of 50 movies to round out this first set of films. The series has had a natural growth as everyone involved has gotten used to to camera's, and the pressure of filming. We as a collective group have evolved. I would like to get to the point were a third party can drop a few of us off anywhere in the world where big trout need to be caught, and we film what happens. Because something usually does. As for more commentary, i usually and end up cutting most of it out thinking i talk to much as it is. I will be doing a 5 part series of How 2's, I'll be talking your ear off in those ones. As a whole, I will try to incorporate i bit more of the education end of things. Thanks to everyone for your input and support, it continues to push us along!
  19. haha You may not see me on any shoreline as i tend to spend most of the time unsnagging from the trees behind me. I sometimes fish with a tall bearded fellow that has a likeness to sasquatch, goes by the name of Strando. He's easy enough to spot. And Yes! Props to Cory Indeed. Cory has become an amazing Camera operator, he has an artistic eye to carry the observers perspective. I really enjoy the editing process, and alway's look forward to see what he has captured at the end of the day. Cory came aboard in 2006 as he filled in for our old Camera Op Timmy when we filmed the movie "The Impossible Canyon". It was obvious even at that time that he had a knack for it. I'm glad he's on board, without him it probably wouldn't happen. We do blindfold him on the drive tho, it's now become a custom.
  20. Hello Fellow Fly Fishers, I have taken a week off work to get on top of the pile of editing as well as to train my new pup. This new movie Fly Fishing Sacred Waters follows a long section of river my Grandfather fly fished 60 years ago on his ( now mine ) Bamboo Hardy. I thought about fishing his old rod in this Movie but the thought of a 15 pound bull snapping it made me change my mind. It turned out to be a great day with many treats found along the river. Remember to click the HD button to have the best viewing experience I hope you enjoy the newest addition in the Humblefisherman series. http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=1BBck5oNJDg
  21. Thanks! with my new computer, they should soon be popping off like caddis in the third week of May.
