  1. Could be wind knots, Knicks or poorly tied knots.

This. After a break off, check your tippet. If there's a bit of curl then it's probably your knot but if it's straight then it was probably a knick. Good idea to re-tie every so often.

The fish that spit the hook are tough to explain how to fight. Some people will tell you side pressure, some will tell you to bow to the fish when it jumps, and things like that but then you'll get other people tell you the exact opposite. I think I learned what worked best for me over time. And sometimes no matter what you do the fish is going to win, but that's what makes you come back for more.

  2. I'm getting a little fed up with Photobucket! Way too many pop-ups and then I have to log out then in again... I'll look at flicker after they lock me out!

Flickr is part of Yahoo and was just acquired by Verizon. I'd wait to see how that plays out before throwing all my eggs into the Flickr basket. I've been a Flickr Pro user for years so I'm nervously keeping an eye on it to see what happens.

  3. Well, better than damp from holes?!

I was thinking more along the lines of using them for the hike in/bushwacking then taking them off.

Wouldn't regular hiking gaiters from MEC work as well? Or would they be too small to fit over waders?

  4. Being one of the Bow's main nurseries, the health of the Highwood certainly effects the Bow. Low oxygen with high temps below High River have been a problem as well. As the populations in towns along the rivers grows, there will be more pressure on water quantity and quality

Might want to make sure to check this out too:

  5. Join the Bow River Chapter of Trout Unlimited in another step in restoring the riparian environment of Legacy Island. On June 17 we will be hand pulling leafy spurge throughout the island, in an attempt to gain control over this noxious weed. Spurge is spreading throughout the Bow River valley and once established, is very hard to control without heavy herbicide use. We are going to attempt to remove this year’s crop before it goes to seed, to gain some control over the spread. We may also remove burdock and black henbane if we have time.

In addition to weed pulling, we have about 80 poplar seedlings to plant, and several hundred more recently planted poplars to water.

  6. Heretic! The simms crowd will froth at the bit over this. Just FYI, I have Orvis Silver Sonics. Love them as well, but they are on year 3, and the little problem phase. I'll get them through this year and go with something new. Maybe some Hodgman. Honestly, takes me back to my roots. Probably have owned more Hodgman waders than anything.

Not everyone who wears Simms joined the cult and drank the Kool Aid. Sometimes you just find something that works for you and stick with it. Now if this were an American forum people would probably be losing it because you're wearing waders that weren't made in 'Murica

  7. I've had a pair of G4Zs going on 4 or 5 years now (long enough that I can't remember exactly when I bought them). Way more days on the water per year than I can count and 99% walk and wade. Bow, spring creeks, and mountain streams so a fair amount of bushwacking. No leaks, no tears, though the gravel guards are looking a little worse for wear.

Having said that, this spring I bought a pair of Patagonia Rio Gallegos as my "no WD waders" and I like them better than the Simms for fit, features, and comfort. Can't speak to durability on them yet, but they were a couple hundred bucks less than comparable Simms.

  8. Talked to a F&W officer on the Bow yesterday. He said they're working on a RAP app for your cell phone and also being able to receive text messages. The text message part will be great if you're in an area with no cell service but have an InReach or Spot that allows you to send texts via satellite.

  9. Probably a few different types. I'd guess there are some from other search engines and things like the internet archive. Probably also lots of malicious bots looking for PHP vulnerabilities in the forum software so they can either spam the forum or use it to host malcode. At the last company I worked for (AV software) we used to have crawlers that would look for malcode being hosted on different sites. All those things are going to show up as Guest users.

  10. I don't understand Loewen's comment regarding, "removing barriers to accessing Albertas fishing spots".

Nothing about access is mentioned in the Plan. I wonder if this comment is directed to fishing spots that need to be accessed on foot. I thought there would be explanation in the Plan but didn't see it.

I took it as a reference to restoring OHV use in the Castle for people too lazy to walk to fishing spots.
