Where To Buy Quality Flies Online?
Fishslayer74 replied to Fishscape's topic in General Chat - Fly Fishing Related
Just bought a bunch of flies from Icky Flies and I must say I'm quite impressed. Ordered last Friday and got them in the mail yesterday. That's quick. As well they look like well tied flies and for the price you defenitley can't beat it. I went to Wholesale last week and picked up a couple at 1.99 a fly and they don't look as good as Icky's Flies for only a 1.00 a fly. Plus to top it off they through in 4 free flies and I ended up getting 10% off my purchase with free shipping. Will buy from them again forsure. -
I was going to try top water but never got around to it. Wish I would have. Next time I go out I'm going to do that forsure. And yeah all the fish were under the 30inch but man I have a 9 weight and they still made it work. Nice to know we have that close to us because it's a riot.

Got out to clear lake yesterday and it was my first time fishing pike on a fly rod and it was absolutley incredible. Couldn't believe how much fun that was and can't wait to go again. It was nice to because I was the only one out there. No one around. A very cool experience indeed.

Go Pro Sport Camera
Fishslayer74 replied to jusfloatin's topic in General Chat - Fly Fishing Related
I ended up buying one when they HD model first came out and have used it for Skiing, DH Mountian Biking, Snorkleing in Hawaii and lately fishing. Really it's great little camera and you get alot of bang for your buck out of it. As suggested above definitely purchase a higher quality SD Card for it. It'll make the difference forsure and make sure it has alot of room on it. Also I found buying a couple of extra batteries came in handy as they will drain pretty quick and it's nice to have back ups on you. Cheers. -
Pike Leader Setup

Right on. That's what I'll do. When you put the 12"-16" of mono on for bullies what weight do you use for that? -

So what your saying if I was to use the albright knot then the thinner wire line would wrap around the thicker 30lb mono??????? -
Pike Leader Setup
Fishslayer74 replied to Fishslayer74's topic in General Chat - Fly Fishing Related
Yeah, a swivel sound so much easier. I was going to go 7' of 30lb Maxima to a small swivel then 2-3' of wire to the fly. Way easier... -

Yeah, I ended up buying different size spools of Maxima mono. So I would just use 9ft of lets say 8lb to my first fly then 8"-12" of 6lb to my bottom fly with possibly weight inbetween both flies? -
I'm planning on going pike fishing this week and was wondering the knot used to attach the mono to the wire leader. I'm thinking it's a albright not but I'm not a 100% on that. If it is an albright knot does the mono get wrapped around the wire? Cheers.

I'm having a difficult time figuring what size of lead to put on and how many. Any tips on that? -
Bought a pair from Country Pleasures 3 weeks ago and love them. Haven't used my bib waters since and really a great wader for the price.
-
Just bought them. I also called to a couple of local fly shops and they said it was the fin of choice for pontoon and float tubes... Thanks for the info buck. Hopefully they'll be easier to work with. Cheers.

Was out floating the Bow on Saturday and was using my outcast fins for the second time and really had to work hard to control the pontoon boat. Now I'm thinking of purchasing a pair of Force Fins. From what I have read they seem to be the CATS ASS of fins and makes control of the boat a hell of alot easier. Anyone have experience with them. Cheers.

Pontoon Modification Question
Fishslayer74 replied to jasonvilly's topic in General Chat - Fly Fishing Related
Yeah, the plexiglass is great and it only took 30mins to cut and finish off. And it's bomber on there. As for the swivel seat I was thinking of that to. Will sure make stearing a hell of alot easier. Cheers. -
Pontoon Modification Question
Fishslayer74 replied to jasonvilly's topic in General Chat - Fly Fishing Related
I just bought an IR10 Stand-Up and I have the same mesh strapping on the back. What I ended up doing to reinforce it was buy the thickest piece of plexiglass from lowes and cut it out around the bars and rounded the corners etc. to make it nice and smooth. From there I just placed the mesh overtop of it to hold it in place. This give me that extra support for overnight floats and putting my large marine battery on the back. Cheers. -
Put A Power Boat Ban On The Bow
Fishslayer74 replied to Fishslayer74's topic in General Chat - Fly Fishing Related
I grew up spin casting so that wasn't the point of what I was trying to get across. In his quote he also mentioned General Public. The point is really from what I saw that day and it's not even summer yet just blew my mind with the traffic and abuse of these motorized boats. And yeah if this keeps up it may have that impact of people not wanting to come and fish this premier trout fishery. Thus having an impact on guiding, fly shops etc. and great places to go fishing without feeling like your going to be swamped or run over. -
Put A Power Boat Ban On The Bow
Fishslayer74 replied to Fishslayer74's topic in General Chat - Fly Fishing Related
After reading all the post's generated from my little rant from last weekend it really does come down to respect and courtesy to others on the river. However Brookie makes a great point with the Elk River and how they have band motorized boats. And there was another comment made on the first page of this topic by Ulmo and below is what he had to say. And all it take's is one of these jack asses not slowing down and ripping it up on the river and finally running into someone. Maybe that's what it'll come down to with putting a ban on them.... "motorized boats should be banned, down to carseland weir - why? when i think of The Blue Ribbon Bow as a world renowned flyfishing destination - im sorry, motorized boats dont come to mind. i could only guess at the horror a guide must feel, taking 500$ plus from a couple guys who flew to calgary from afar, only to have a beautiful day interupted by a screaming boat..." "motorized boats are for lakes, not rivers. just one guys opinion." -
Was out on my pontoon boat floating and fishing with a couple of friends on Satruday from Policeman's Flat's to Mckinnon Flats and we had at least five Jet type boat fly right by us without slowing down. They nearly swapped us with there waves. One of the times I even used my hand to get them to slow down and with no respect they just kept the same speed. WOW is about all I can say. How disrepectful can you be and man boat like that should totally be banned on the Bow River System. Sorry but I just needed to rant about that. Other than that the fishing/float was amazing.
