  1. Yeti coolers are bomb and zombie proof, but if you are runnin' away from a zombie, you definitely don't want to be carrying a Yeti. Wicked heavy.

So take that into account if you plan on having it in a d boat. Fully loaded with a crew's worth of beer and food weighs enough that it will lean your boat if you store it on the side. PIA to constantly make sure guys are on the opposite side to act as a counter weight.

  2. I would love for some guides to chime in here...tell us your story on how you became a guide, what steps you took and how you became a professional.

Might help this young guy out.

I am sure there are a million different ways that guys got into the profession and once they made that decision the million different paths that they took to become a professional.

  3. Go here for all proposed changes.

    http://esrd.alberta.ca/fish-wildlife/fisheries-management/documents/Proposed2015AnglingChanges-Nov28-2014.pdf

Now I think they made a mistake. They have Bowriver (bearspaw to Carseland) listed as PP2 when it should be ES1.

But if it is a mistake and they are proposing the changes I think they are then this will mean big changes for the popular floats. see point 2

    1) 0 retention for all species

    2) fall closure Oct 1- Nov 31 to protect brown trout

Although I float and fish quite a bit in these months, I am not against giving the browns a break to do their thing.

Interesting however is that they are not doing the same for rainbows in the spring. Which leads me to postulate that they have realized the browns have taken a hit in last couple of years (flood, sapro, low water fluctuations)

  4. Bought my first house in June.

Put up lights on my "own" house for the first time this year. I was pretty excited to do it. With the new clips you can buy, sure is a lot easier than when I was a kid doing it with dad.

Started small, just the front eveastrough and two trees for this year. Will add more ech year. Lights sure are more expensive than I thought they would be. $200 didn't go very far. I kept thinking about fly fishing equipment I could have bought. But I'm sure my 2 year old nephew will like it.

  5. Picked up a plant last week from Saskatoon farm. $50 for a 2 year old bush.

Another option is the honey berry plant. Very hardy and tasty. They had 1 year old plants for $25. Just make sure to get two different species so that they can cross pollinate and give you berries.

They had plenty of both last weekend.

  6. Was fishing my favourite stretch of the elbow river. Found a nice looking handheld GPS unit.

Unfortunately I can't find any info about the owner. But I do know that the last waypoint was set yesterday.

If you lost your unit, please PM with the device type, color and some specifics and I'll be glad to return it to you.

    Cheers.
