I won't say it's overkill, but you don't need a rod that heavy for pike. I use a 10 wt. Still it would be nice for salman and for tuna, so go far a salt water line.

Well now I know that the big one I hooked at Beaver Mines was about 20 inches, I only saw it jump once. -
