  1. Who gives a ____ what body of water? Well, because the general public still perpetuates "as long as it don't happen in my back yard" in their own way. This board is certainly not immune. Why else did it take 5 or 6 years to follow the lead on SW? (Congrats on that, btw, it's a great thing.) This ain't an attack about that, I'm just pointing out that our waters are only going to be preserved one step at a time, one water at a time, that folks still would rather bitch about generalities than get involved, and that if someone has a heart felt passion for the water that the offense occurred on, then this kind of thing could spur that person into action. Not determining the water's name leaves things too much in the air to speculation, allowing us a psychological out to taking action. Otherwise, we'll end up watching folks simply bitch on internet forums rather than actually doing something. Hence my statement about getting away from generalities. Far too many people speak of generalities as a cushion to doing something - naming the water body spurs passionate people into action. I don't know if you get my point or can see my perspective. I'm not intending to lambaste Clive for posting this - it's good to have attention given. Where it fell short is giving good information so that it falls into a possible action for someone who loves BHR, rather than falling into "just another bloody infraction" department like so many other times on these forums.
  2. Lillooet @ the Narrows bridge is good for a bunch of things this time of year. I suspect the Birkie is closed. The Squamish is good for dollies, certainly. Not sure if Ashlu is open but there are some nice runs. If fishing the Squamish, head up quite a ways past the Ashlu and you'll find easier water to fish. Not lots of steel in there but there are smaller resident rainbows and bulls. Worth checking out the Cheakamus up through the kayak gates as the boulders create good pocket water. The Chek below Daisy Dam is good water with some ok fishing this time of year, certainly sight fishing in some nice runs. Hope that helps.
  3. First, this post should not have been done with the insinuation (sp) that the location was BHR without confirmation by an official. It's simply too touchy. While this may take time to do, it clarifies everything and allows people to vent, yes, but moreover it allows people to take action to ensure this kind of thing is addressed properly and action taken to curtail this from happening in the future. I don't disagree with much of what DF posts, however, in this instance must disagree with the one missing ingredient - checking things out first. Secondly, I'll just leave my jaw on the floor with the racism, curtailed or not. I don't care what an 18 - 20 yr old has "seen" in his time. What has he done to encourage change in this area, rather than promote racial stereotyping? Gopher back down the hole.
  4. Don, You won't catch me disagreeing with too much of what you've typed. However, where the bait gets furry is in your posturing overtone that brow beats as bad as we've seen on most ff forums. I understand it, don't agree with it, but it's clearly intended to net the gullibles, which derides your point and renders it unheeded.
  5. From Steve Herman, FT in RMH: "No you have not lost it, there are bulls and cutts in Lake of Falls. Unfortunately we don't always get to review the regs before they are printed, and for some reason this was a mistake that was made. We noticed it after the regs were printed, but of course this was too late. In the 2006 regs and previous it was listed as "trout limit 2", and I had wanted to specify the bulls with a "0" limit. When we applied for our request, they made a mistake and put in brookies. Am hoping that we see the first draft of the regs this year as there were some other mistakes as well. Good eyes to notice this. In an old Icefields pamphlet it also used to list brook trout there, but I had them change it." Let the discussion now be closed <gopherboy goes back down the hole for another couple months>
  6. Hope I didn't offend you too much with that post, was meant to be light! How do I know? Because I've fished it a lot of times, likely more than most, spoken to F&W staff many times about the lake(s) and concerns, etc. The #1 concern F&W has for that population of bulls is that people think they are brookies and take their 'limit of brookies'. Have seen and called in folks having a fry of brookies. The outlet stream is closed in fall to protect the spawning pop of bulls and there's a bait ban to protect them too. The #2 concern is the use increase there. Having 150 people show up to do a corporate picnic having been flown in is a little much but happens many more times in a season than you think. The heli hike - picnic crowd has changed a lot of the landscape as well. Careful what you support when flying with certain companies. The difference between fishing up there today vs 10 years ago is astonishing. Try fishing Michele Lakes - there's a helicopter overhead every 10 minutes (literally from 9 am to 5 or 6) doing a low fly by on its way home from a tour. About the other heli site listed - while they have no baggage fees the ferry time to get to where IHT is located will cost a fair chunk. Don't think it's much different end result - it's going to cost and the flight from Nordegg to Cline is only so-so until you get to Abraham. The difference between the two companies is that one has crashed 3 times the past 18 months while the other hasn't had an incident in 11 yrs. You get what you pay for.
  7. No offense, but looks like someone needs to take the fish ID test - no brookies in L of Falls!

  9. Not many more booths though.
  10. You sure you weren't just bone fishing? Sorry for all the posts in this thread. I really get off on this kind of thing.
  11. Glen, you forgot to mention that it's a fly that you DON'T share with your buddies and certainly not with sheep. Unless you learned something else down in NZ
  12. I looked all over Calgary and no shop has a box big enough for mine. It's hard to travel abroad when your fly is so oversized.
  13. Sorry, can't help you there but you can take the word that's what the rods are - just dressed up fancier and priced to make a few $ for John. It's a good blank for sure.
  14. ? The G&L is nothing but a DanCraft blank, which is perfectly in the price range if anyone wants to build a nice rod.
  15. Jim's new book will be avail just immediately before the show. It is a collection of updated, favorite articles. The book signings are tentative as the timing is very tight. Apparently it is coming along nicely but there is still work to be done, certainly, in the editing, some last minute writing fine tuning, photo selection areas, etc before it hits the presses. Hope this helps.
  16. The top one is iffy, might be a false redd - testing the site only. The bottom, no question.
  17. Carrying capacity is your weapon in defining what you seek. Say to legislate a minimum of 70% of carrying capacity, with a healthy representation of age classes, with limited angler entry on sensitive waters. Think that through and you'll find all of what's needed, right down to the science to establish the numbers and the enforcement to ensure they remain that way.
  18. I hope that the gov does the right thing and follows Norway into getting true value in an industry that needs our resources. Good old USA and other foreign lands (see China) will come banging down the door very soon and the short term pain by doing the right thing will mean long term prosperity and stability vs the give away of today. Just casting a line into a pool to see what rises, please don't come too hard back at that statement, looking for thoughts to that.
  19. FYI, apparently few of you heard about this, but it gives a new spin on heli fishing. A friend of mine flew for Icefield Heli Tours, just west of Nordegg. He quit after the company has now crashed 3 machines in 18 months. Only one made it to the papers. The company crashed a machine into Abraham Lake, in the Ram R canyon, and the cheif pilot did one at a glacier spring of '06. Do your research before you fly. http://www.cbc.ca/canada/edmonton/story/20...gg-chopper.html
  20. Careful with that helicopter co, they've crashed 3 machines in 18 months now. One on a glacier, one in the Ram 4 weeks ago, and 2 weeks ago into Abraham Lake - sending a couple from France swimming for shore. Thankfully they haven't killed anyone, but they're coming close. Too many issues with the company, steer clear!
  21. Good one TL. The shot tells a tale. Obviously my comments were misunderstood but that's life on the 'net for you. Please don't side track the thread any more with replies, just consider alternative thoughts in the future, it might enhance perspectives for those able to consider them, hence my misleading other post at this forum which was intended to spur conversation on that topic. Alternative views aren't negative unless you react to them that way.
  22. Why is it that when photo threads pop up, people first divert to their biggest fish instead of their favorite and/or best photos? Good photography vs bubba's biggest fish is like comparing a good scotch to Club Beer. No offense, a lot of nice stuff, but often the spirit is lost by egos.
  23. I am wondering how these rivers are right now? How much clarity to them? TIA
