  1. Signs are a waste of money, you get free regs when you purchase your license. the ones breaking the rules or the law dont read the regs or the signs posted. The only way to stop it is to see it happening and call it in! This is a problem that wont go away or be fixed just have to keep calling em in thats the only way. If money is going to be spent just spend it on enforcment officers, signs are a waste of money. Its like the gun registrey, doesnt work because the bad guys dont register, This is not rocket science.

I do not agree with your statement.

I believe that with the lack of CO's for enforcement anything we can do will help.

A sign at the main access areas with the RAPP symbol on it with the ph # clearly visible will help people who do not have the # handy. Doubtfull many poachers will give it much heed but perhaps let them know they are being watched.

I had a fellow in the shop this morning completly disgusted with the rubber gloves with blood & scales on them, empty worm bags etc.. left in & around Police in just the last week.

I did not know that for our whole south region there is only one CO. A hireing freeze is on.

I will talk to my sign guy and see if we can sponser some signs for this purpose.

  2. All,

I helped a gentlemen out on the Bow River Sunday morning. He overnight camped at the first corner downstream of the Highwood Confluence. The cold front from Saturday night blew his 18 foot aluminum canoe into the river and it was not located. I checked all side channels and back eddies as I gave him a lift to MacKinnon Flats(did not check below).

Contact me directly if you have seen the canoe downstream of the Highwood.

    Regards,

    Dean

I saw a lonesome alum. canoe yesterday on the lower river its on the north bank left channel below the 5km sign. give me a call if you like 403 873-0744 mike

  3. Hi folks,

We are bringing a few pairs of 9 ft. oars from Sawyer.

If you are thinking of new or replacing this is your chance.

A few more pairs will help reduce shipping etc..

I am bringing in some Dynalite squaretops for myself and some standard s/d whitewaters as basics.

I will get a few oar locks , rubber rings & tip protectors as well.

You have a couple of weeks to get your order in. Please check out the link below & call the shop for pricing.

    Thanks,

    Dave

  4. Sweet Adams Mitchell , and beauty Hopper Lornce !

Hey fella's can anyone share the secret to tying on the rubber legs "figure 8" style , as in chenille rubber leg stone . I've been doing the ole parallel tye ins which make them more of a cross pattern , if you know what I mean , I cant find any vids . And they just dont seem to look as good . Thanks guys

Edit: Found it....manipulation of the legs via chenille wraps.

    Cj

put a overhand knot in your rubberlegs and then slip over eye of hook and then tie down with thread. hope that helps

  5. Hey Guys,

I have been fishing all around southern alberta in the last 2 weeks and have found that alot of the bull trout(some cutts too) seem to strike a little short missing the hook and in some cases ripping the rabbit strip off my streamers. So I thought that adding a stinger hook would help. I attached the stinger hook to the main hook using toothy critter steel leader material 15lb.

My question is, should the stinger hook be tied to the rabbit strip or should it be left seperate to move on its own and not hamper the action of the rabbit strip?

Here is a picture, it is not attached to the stinger in this pic.

I would make sure to have hook turned up so you dont have a bunch of Tongue Bleeding Trout, great looking fly tho.

  6. Where was your stuff stolen , I was hit also this weekend .

    Glenmore boat launch .

    :$*%&:

That is a bad boat launch at Glenmore ive even had my gas tank emptyed. This always deters people from getting any bad thoughts. When i see a person at the parking lots hanging around i put my gear on and then walk behind there vehicle and pretend to write down their license number. It seems to work for me, but be careful some just dont like that. Why? Probably the culprit . my thought

  7. No need to post signs with rapps # cause it is on the back of your license. If it is something to create awarenes then someone will chop it down, look at the kids that party in the parking lot at poilce during the long hours of the night, sick and tired of coming there in the morning and having to pick up other people's garbage. Plus I wonder where they are getting the wood?????

I hear you, maybe a good sized sticker on the side of the garbage can or nailed to a tree ??This is the 3rd group I've had busted down there.

We lost our sign board down there after the 05 flood, perhaps we need another.

Birchy was right no RAPP# on the back of a computer bought licence so some visual reminder for these guy's might help somewhat.

I guess for now lets all keep a keen eye open for fishermen not following the rules.

I have since put the # on speed dial in my phone.

  8. If a wild turkey was to follow a person home....what kind of flies could one make with said bird's feathers?

Show me some pictures and tell me which feathers were used. One good thing about a whole turkey cape is what feathers can't you use. From the Marabou. to the wings to the tail feathers its all useable. All types of flies can be tied, Muddler Minnows, Grasshopper patterns, Streamers, Dry flys (thorax dries ), Intruders, nymphs . Good Luck

  10. Come enjoy a few hours of talks and slide show on March 26 at 12 pm with Master guide Jan-Erik Elofsson on the Ekaluk River in Nunavut Canada. Come and see the Biggest Searun Arctic Char in the world. A must for any body who enjoys Spey fishing. Steelheaders will Drool over this ,it is a must do in life . Believe me I've been each year since 2004 and going again in 2011.

Jack is a very interesting Scandinavian now leaving in Calgary who has guided the Bow River in the late seventies early eighties . But has guided anglers all over the globe, Argentina, Greenland, Iceland, and his Scandinavia,as well as Kashmir valley he also enjoys Steelheading as well as deer, elk hunting.

Quote; Atlantic salmon angler. If these Char grew as big as Atlantics you would not have a chance landing one of them, so true. I always said you need to bring two pairs of wading boots.

  12. Just wondering if someone has tips for me on the whip finishing trick(if there is one) between the spun deer hair and the cone?

From all the pictures I see of the bow river bugger with a conehead the spun and clipped deer hair seamlessly meets with the cone.

I am going to tie some tonight and I am looking for any tricks of the trade regarding this one aspect of the fly.

I can tie them without a conehead but I am foreseeing some difficulty.

Is the trick just the way you hold out your tongue when finishing it off?

Can you effectively get head cement in there?

example (not mine) of the clean look I am wanting to achieve

    Bow-River-Bugger-Conehead-Side.jpg

Just add a little Zap a Gap to your last few wraps of thread before you tie off that will hold the life of the fly
  13. Anyone know where I can get:

    1. Veniard Dye

    2. Orco Flydye

    3. Superfly Dye

    Thanks for the help!

The Superfly dye we have been using, Mike every day for the last 2 weeks, seems to have a deeper richer color and doesn't run. sets quick, cool aid for me in the past depending on what we are dying can take day's and isn't as deep of color. The polar bear we are dying right now sometimes only sits in the dye for a couple of minutes depending on intensity wanted.

Otherwise we leave it in over night. We have some dye left for sale if you need.

    Tx.
