  1. Hi Guys, Once again Scott Mackenzie and the DTX Pro Staff Team have produced another Award winning Range of rods. The new Shooting Head range of rods have just been voted BEST in TEST of all the Spey rods tested in the April edition of the UK's biggest selling magazine Trout and Salmon. The Test was carried out by Jim Curry AAPGAI Master Instructor and Gary Champion AAPGAI Master Instructor and FFF Master Casting Instructor. Rods tested included rods from Hardy's, Orvis, Loop, Guidline, Loomis and C.F Burkheimer and many others. Jim's comments on the New DTX Shooting Head rod ( i consistantly threw my best loops of the day using the DTX SH which was a joy to use, the tip recovers incredibly quickly creating very fast line speed.) Gary's comments (ONE HELL OF A ROD, it creates amazing loops and my favorite rod on test.) The Traditional and Shooting head range of DTX rods are available in sizes from 12ft to 16ft. www.mackenzieflyfishing .com Scott has created the DTX Brand, and now has an incredible DTX Pro Staff Team in the UK which includes some of the most qualified Speycasting Instructors in the World, including the most qualified Instructor in the World, and 14 top Ghillie's on Famous Scottish Rivers. http://www.mackenzieflyfishing.com/pro-team/ We also have a great bunch of Instructors and Guides in Russia, Norway and Canada which includes FFF board Examiners, Steelhead guides, Steelhead Lodge Owners and Casting Instructors as Part I would like to thank all the guys in Canada for thier support and especially Peter Charles for giving the DTX SH a good testing over the winter Steelheading in Ontario, and Matt Eugene for catching some big springs and crackin Steelhead on the Dean, Bulkley and Kispiox River.......... and sending me the Pictures........ not jealous at all. There will also be a new range of DTX Shooting head lines that Scott , Andrew Toft and the Guides from Norway, Russia and Canada have been working on over the Winter months, i will post the detail shortly. The range of rods will be available in some selected store shorty and we will this year at to our Steelhead Pro Staff Team. If you would like anymore detail please contact me. 2. Though i may be 6000 miles away ............ my thought are with you at this time. Gordon.
  3. Hi KnotLikely, Good to here you had a good time on the Dee, the river seems to be off to a flyer but it is a Spring river, the Spey has been in high water for a couple of weeks but will be in good shape pretty soon. Also good to hear you had a good time casting the DTX rod, the more you cast it with no effort the more you get out of it, part of the reason it was voted by the public , best product at the Kelso fly show as well as winning awards at most of the big fly shows in England. You know you want one................ and you know i have them. Gordon.
  4. Hey Brad, Good to here you would like to get a DTX 13ft, just wanted to add that these rods will still be in production for years, we are just adding more and more products to the DTX Brand, Scott and Andrew are wotking full-time on Product developement. I dont know any other Spey company that has two world champions but more importantly guys that have guided for 40 years between them as well as guides from around the world having imput on product design. Scott is determined to build DTX into a Brand like no other, Tony Kakkuri has had a shooting head line design idea for years, with his imput and Andrew who helped in the Design of the Carron Jetstream range, we will have a shooting head range developed in Scandanavia and produced in the UK............ 19 new lines coming this year. Cheers Brad. Gordo,
  5. Scott Mackenzie DTX is very happy to have Andrew Toft as our newest member of the Pro Staff Team, As well as being the current world distance champion. Andrew is the MOST QUALIFIED SPEYCASTER IN THE WORLD and designer of some or the best fly lines while working with the Carron Team. Hopefully Andrew will be coming to Calgary this summer to do some Speycasting Masterclasses, i will be able to post details at a later date, but if your into Speycasting this is a couple of classes not to miss, Andrew has been working on some new DTX shooting head lines with Scott and former World Champion Fly Tyer and underhand casting master Tony Kakkuri as well as the head guide on the Yokanga in Russia , the new shooting head rods and lines will be out in Canada this summer. You can see a profile of Andrew at www.andrewtoft-flysport.com Gordon Macleod Scott Mackenzie DTX Pro Staff North America.
  6. Toolman i remember it well, well some of it. Had a great time at the show and a couple of great nights in Coo Toon..................... eh say no more, i hope to repeat the feat one day, but will try and get to the show before 11am on the Sunday. Cheers Gordo....... in a very mild weathered Highlands.......... River Spey opens next week.
  7. Thanks Guys. I enjoyed the show a few years ago, but for me the timing is na good, most companies i know bring out the latest products around March time, most of the public attending are like me just getting over the spending spree at Xmas. Lethfisher i know what you mean, and its a pity the casting pond is not bigger, i watch a demo with the double-Hander and most of the guys watching think........ i can cast that far easy with my single-hander,and just dont see the benefitsof a double-handed rod, i think it puts people off the idea of getting into Speycasting and maybe why its not growing at any real speed. Cheers Gordo.
  8. Hi Guys, Just wondering how was the fishing show this year, haven't been for a few years but thinking about t next year, if its warm and sunny outside. Cheers Gordo.
  9. Hey Mr C, Got a bit of snow here, thankfully its getting a bit warmer, talking about old rods i now have one of the rarest Fly rods in the world, an original Grant Vibration owned and fished by Alexander Grant himself while he worked for Lord Burton at Dochfour, he gave it to one of the Ghillies on the River, was past on to another and i bought it off him as he had retired from Dochfour but still lives on the Estate. I think there can only be a handfully in the world outside the museum, i am after the reel that he used on the rod, hopefully i will have that soooooon. Happy Xmas To you, wee Val and everybody in Calgary/ Gordo.
  10. Hey SilverDoctor, All is well here in Speyside........ if a little cold, -20 and loads of snow, Global warming they say. I just get a little GURNEY as we say here, its nothing really just that most of what is being claimed as new or invented in the last few years is really much much older .....as you know. Alot of developement in Speycasting goes back to the 1880's 1900, when it really started to become more and more popular for a few reasons, one being that fishing up until then was only for the very rich land owners who controlled all the Salmon fishing and kept it private for thier sport and for a few wealthy friends, much like the shooting season. To cut a long story short, most Ghillie's jobs were handed down Father to son, and short double-handled rods came about, not easy to get a kid started on a 16ft Greenheart rod. Switch rods in Speycasting History were designed for Switch casting which at the time was considered a rival for Speycasting , the rods were not any smaller but softer, a greenheart rod might be three sections but often the sections were different lenghts to get the action you wanted. I know that all the governing bodies in Speycasting, say a switch cast is a cast without change of direction, but dare i say it....... they are wrong. I know the term Switch rods is now used differently, but thats were it came from............... a long winded kinda answer, can you tell its -20 and i'm sitting at the computer staying warm. Hopefully i will get back to the Bow and we can just go fish. Cheers Gordon.
  11. Hello My friends in Calgary and on the Island. *With all due respect and humbly, but wasn't it R.B. Meiser that originated the "Switch Rod" concept 30 years ago? Or am I wrong, just curious about the history.^ I know Bob Meiser and a great guy he is, i know like us all,,,,,,, he is getting on a bit, but i dont think he was around the Highlands of Scotland in the 1880's when Switch rods where first used........... i love Canada , please don't be so American about Speycasting........................... and speycasting history Gordon.
  12. Scott Mackenzie DTX is doing a ONE month offer on any rod in the DTX range, buy any rod and get free shipping and a FREE DTX line to match. 13. Hi Guys, I have put up for auction a 13ft DTX spey rod designed by Scott Mackenzie on a well known speycasting web site, it has a couple of days left but right now is sitting at $560.00 , got to be worth a look at that price. Last weekend the DTX range of rods was voted best product at the Tweed Fly Fishing show by the visitors to the show, these rods are really something special. Gordon.
  14. Hi Guys, I would be careful when lining up a Airflo 40+, the lines are over rated as far as weight goes, the reason for this is when they brought them out they wanted most guys to go (look at that fecker fly) , if not set up right it can be tiring casting a heavy what is really a shooting head with integated running line all day. Nip down to fishtales like cheerler says, and get it dialed in before you go buy one that may not suit your rod. Gordon.
  15. Hey Mr C, Had the longest and coldest winter on record, lost loads of fish at the fishery.........like 10 Tonne, yuuuuk, i will spend sometime next winter Steelheadin for sure, bugger this workin for a living. Should be in BC with Scott's rods and lines next month doing a few clinic's and getting round some stores, will try and get to the Island to see you and my wee buddy. Cheers Gordon.
  16. Sent the full range of Scott Mackenzie DTX rods to get a good ole Steelhead testing up at Terrace over the winter, the 12ft and 13ft where given a long hard winter of Steelhead fishing by a couple of Pro guides, and they passed with flying colours and are now the only rods the guys use for guiding and fishing in thier own time. I know where i'm going Steelheading. Gordon.
  17. Hi Guys, Thought i had posted on this thread, but i guess old age doesn't come alone, if your into Speycasting or thinking about getting into Spey try and make it to this day, Bob is a great rod builder and a hell of a nice guy... if i was in Coo Toon i would make a point of being there. Gordon in a snowy Speyside.
  18. Favorite Bow river Spey rod......................... easy, and one just arrived in Coo Toon last week Gordo.
  19. Hi Brownsbask, Lots of good advice from everybody, i would think a call to Brian would do the trick, or there are some Speycasting classes coming up this spring, i would get a lesson from someone who has been Speycasting for a while, there are lots of guys that have been into Spey in Calgary for a good few years now. As Spey grows stores want to get into the action, that had no interest in Spey even a year ago so advice can be patchy, give Brian a call, or Toolman or Max on the site, all will be able to help big time and save you a fortune. Gordo.
  20. Cant make the show this year.....bummer, still its good to see lots of Speycasting demo's at the show, but i wish they would change the dates to Spring time.
  21. Hey Mr C, I'm looking after fish in the bloody cold and snow, and you are off fishin for Bones in the sun........ something wrong there , still.... some of the rivers open for da Spring Salmon shortly and the Spey next month, so will be swinging a fly shortly, might be cold but Springers are the best of the lot. All being well i will be in BC in March for a wee while, take care.............. and that goes for anybody out fishing over the winter months. Gordo fae a cold Speyside.
  22. Hey Mr C, Loads of snow here, more than i've seeni1n years, they will be skiing until June this rate, had Hogmanay (new year) with the wee fishes , see even in the snow and at new year..........i'm amongst Rainbows. Happy New Year to you and the wee wifie. Gordon.
  23. Hey Mr Bhurt, No beer for me, we have oxegard and if the alarm goes i have 5 mins to be there. no fishing in the ponds either .... though we have one pond with around 7000 8 to 9lb ers. At -16 last night i ain't fishin. Have a good one. Gordo.
  24. Happy Xmas to all the Calgary Speycasters, hope everybody has a great Xmas and Hogmanay, its Xmas here already in a really Snowy Speyside, i would have a Dram but i have to look after my 700,000 babies (Rainbow Trout) all night, my turn for duty. Have a great one guys. Gordon.
