  1. Just tied these up tonight. Pretty standard recipe, with a glass bead and copper wire. This one was 18 gauge red copper wire that I bought from Michael's. The skinnier wire is easier to work with though. After about 5, you get on a roll and can make them pretty quickly.

  2. This would be a pretty good starter pack.... Once you get these in various sizes you'll magically end up with another 20 different types of flies and your flyboxes will multiply like spores. I would say I catch 95% of my fish on these (I suck at streamers, so I didn't put any in).

    - Turk's Tarantula

    - Orange Stimulator

    - Hopper

    - Chernobyl Ant

    - Big Black Ant (my own)

    - Copper John

    - BH Pheasant Tail

    - BH Hare's Ear

    - Stonefly

    - Caddis Emerger

    - BH Prince

    - Elk Hair Caddis

    - Griffiths Gnat

    - Parachute Adams

    - Green Drake

    - Blue Winged Olive

  3. I use Coppertone Sport. SPF 30. Waterproof, sweat proof. Use it both for Golfing and Fishing. Works great. Never had a burn when I use it.

That's what I use as well. I also always fish with a hat on, partly for the sun, and partly to protect my head from the odd hook on a poor cast. I still end up with a sunglass tan and the "brown glove" tan, but those are the marks of a happy fisherman. :)

  4. But I like the 9ft leader triple nymph double split shot rig! I can finally cast that thing without assuming the position as much. :)

Thanks for the tips guys. This gives me another skill to add to my arsenal. Can't wait to try it out!

  5. What leader length would you use for 1-2 ft of fast water? That's one depth I can't seem to quite figure out right now.

I'm almost thinking of using a smaller indicator, with ~4 ft of leader, and no weight. I've learned not to barge right in to start casting at the sexy water on the Bow, but I've come to realize that the 9 ft leader, big indy, and a couple of split shot just doesn't seem to cut it on the shallower faster water.

  6. I just got my box of flies from Icky, and they look great! It only took a few days, and I was also rewarded with a few free flies. I think this is the best deal for flies right now. With the FFC discount and free shipping with orders over $30, plus the few bonus flies, I averaged under $0.90 per fly! A great way to get flies that I normally don't tie (streamers, turk's tarantulas, etc.) or can't physically tie (size 20 little things).

    Can't wait to use them!
