I have a funny warranty story. I broke my 5 wt late May and had Fish Tales send the rod to Sage. They called me 4 weeks later saying that the blank was in, but the courier ran over it, so it's in a few pieces. They sent it back promptly, and now 8 weeks later, I found out Sage sent it to Vancouver for some strange reason.
Maybe the Sage guys think Vancouver is close to Calgary? Hehe. Can't wait to cast that rod again.
Still, Fish Tales is the easiest way to take care of a Sage warranty.

I've occasionally caught fish on the swing, more as a fluke than intentionally. I keep forgetting about this technique.

Yup, those Simms aren't cheap. I bought an older pair of the Simms Guide for 30% off from a local fly shop, which was the only way I could afford them.

After seeing that fat brown caught by echinopora in the Jenny Craig thread, I thought it might cheer some people up (especially with this weather) to post some big football-like fish that you have caught. It doesn't have to be the biggest fish you've caught, but it has to be nice and fat, so post away!
I'll start with a couple:

This fish is also in the downtown area, and while there are other fish in the run doing the more splashy takes, this one very casually sips. It has been consistently rising within a 10' radius at around the same time of the evening, generally when the daytime highs are in the 20s (like last night). I've definitely been enjoying watching the fish, as it has risen for caddis, spinners, ants, and noseeums. I've been doing a lot more watching/searching this year than before, and also have found more rising browns than ever before, which is probably tied to the watching bit. It's amazing how many large fish are above the weir. I'll need to come up with a name for this fish...
Maybe my 4x is too heavy and I need to go lighter and longer. I know last night I was well hidden - wearing black (at sunset) and right behind a bush (coming at it from the other side). If I had binoculars, surely someone would have thought I was a peeping tom.
I should have thrown a Klinkhammer at it, eh?

I've been trying to catch this one brown trout that has been consistently rising in about a foot of water. The problem is that it's tough to get into casting range, and half the time I do, I spook it with the little ripples I make. The other half of the time I get a few casts in, and then it stops rising. Yet, I keep coming back for more. When I have an hour to kill in the evening, I keep going back there, and he keeps rising, but I walk away defeated. I should keep searching for other rising fish, but this elusive one keeps drawing me back.
Am I just a glutton for punishment?

On the Bow, I start with my top secret killer combo (SJW, prince, CJ), unless there's something obvious happening on the water (ie. hatch). If I don't catch anything, I first adjust my weight and/or leader length. If I still catch nothing, then I move up and/or down the run. If that doesn't work, then I start changing flies. If nothing else works, I start walking to the next hole.
Most of the time I catch something by then.
How do you decide what fly or flies to use? And what prompts you to change the fly or flies you're using? -
