  1. Thanks guys! Going to look at some vices this weekend.
  2. Hi everyone, I am looking at buying a new vice. I am tying larger streamers(pike, bull trout flies)now and my old vice is not doing well(Apex). I think a rotary vice would be good and I am leaning towards the norvise but before I spend that money I thought I should ask the guys that know! So looking for any advice or opinions Thanks Lance
  3. Awesome info guys! Can you still buy the TG-4 locally or is it all the TG-5? I mostly found the 5 in stock in stores with the 4 online with limited inventory. Thanks for all the info
  4. Hey everyone, I have Recently seen some of the photos that grace these forums and I am extremely impressed with the quality and ability I see here. My photos pale by comparison. I am using a 7 year old Pentax optio W90. I know it's probably more me than the cameras fault but I am curious about what cameras people are using. I did a search and found some threads from 2014 and older but I am looking for a refresher on the topic. Besides the camera model, any other advice is welcome too. I don't want to "pose" a fish, just couple of quick shots, maybe underwater would be great. I just seem to screw it up. Thanks
  5. Hey Guys, I have a 11' zodiac boat that I inherited, it has an old electric motor but I was thinking of purchasing a new 4stroke outboard for it. It has a rating up to 20hp. I know certain lakes have speed or motor size restrictions(ie electric only) but where can you find that info? I remember the fishing guide used to have some info but no longer seems to be there. I am really looking at lakes like Upper and Lower Kananaskis, Spray and Maligne lake in jasper. Thanks
  6. Thanks guys! Hi Dick, sorry I missed your reply earlier. We stayed at the riverside campground and the st marys river runs right past it. I caught fish in the river along the campground, I did catch bigger fish the farther away I got from the campground. I recommend driving to the bottom of the hill in the campground and walking from there. It is mostly flat there and the paths are well marked. The river by the campground had some pools, riffles and enough runs with boulders to keep me interested and the cuts were in all the usual places. Hope it helps a bit Lance
  7. Hi again guys, Thanks for all the advice, I switched to Chrome and all is good. Here's hoping MrBotangles got things figured out too..
  8. Hi guys, I have been out rambling around Alberta and BC, thought I would post a few photos I thought were cool. St Marys River BC, was there during the 36C to 39C days in July. St Mary's Cutty, worth the extra $20 a day? I had 2 days of 20+ fish each day, so probably money well spent. Caught this guy when he tried to eat the cutty that rose to my dry and he lined the dropper, was tough on a 3wt. At least the cutty got free, he looked pretty terrorized at first. Fished the bow in the NW the other day and found this guy hiding in the shade, definitely one of the bigger Burbs I have seen up there.
  9. I have tried to use the Link tab, it pops up a window, I fill it out, click ok or cancel or the x in the corner, and then it never disappears and nothing happens for me.
  10. Same problem here... IE 11 and Win 8.1
  11. Hi Yak, I checked the Alberta Parks website and a lot of campgrounds don't open until the middle of may. I found that Lundbreck Falls campground is open May 1st so maybe that will work? I would call ahead too as sometimes the dates are off due to snow, flood etc. Tried to post a link for you but I do not seem to be able to at this point.
  12. Hey Guys, I did a bit of walking in the forestry this year, not as much as I would like but everyone knows how that goes. Here a couple of shots. This is a Cutt I caught on Aug 16 this year And I believe I caught the same fish last year on Sept 2 ,2012 And just some other random shots And my new fishing partner...
  13. Hi Castnblast, My Camera is a Pentax Optio 90.
  14. Hey guys, I was looking through a few photos from last year and missing summer time...
  15. Hi Guys, I have been tying some streamers and I am having difficulty finding long marbou where the stalk of the feather is not too thick and the feather is long enough. I am looking for something like the Hareline extra select marabou. I have opened some packages of marabou in store and the bag will have a couple of long feathers but most are short with thick stalks. I am going to head down to south calgary tomorrow, can anybody recommend a flyshop that may have what I am looking for? Thanks
  16. Hi Guys, Every year I go and hike the upper Elbow to see how it is doing and try to catch a few fish. Most years are more hiking and fishing but less catching, but thats ok the scenery is great! This year was better than most with more fish caught and a decent variety. I caught 3 cutts, 3 bulls and 1 brookie, years past I have hiked 3-4kms for 1 cutt. The river looks amazing, but the fish are still few and far between. Heres a few pics
  17. Hey guys, I was looking at the photo closer and think you guys are right, the first fish is a brookie. Guess I failed the brook/bull trout id test....doh! cya
  18. Hey Guys, I went out to NW section of the bow this afternoon to see how it was fishing. I caught a bull/brookie hybrid (I think) first and then a Laker second. Moved a couple of rainbows fishing streamers but nothing hooked up. Here's a couple of pics The first pic(only pic of bull) is not very good but he looks like a bull except for the black spots on his dorsal fin. He ate a streamer almost as big as he was... The laker hit the same streamer and put up a decent fight.
  19. Thanks guys, I will try some different color combos to see what works.
  20. Hi Guys, I have been tying a bunch of streamers for the bow, getting ready for the runoff and whatever. I primarly tie Olive/White or Black/White plus just Black, Olive, and White. I have tried Yellow with little luck. I seem to have the best luck with Olive/White but will admit I don't try enough other colors. What color streamers would you guy recommend for the Bow? Thanks Lance
  21. Hey Guys, I saw this in the NW a couple of years ago, it also had a white spot under its chin(the photo doesn't show it). I never did figure out what it was. It moved pretty good through the rocks.
  22. Sorry, The hooks are Mustad 3407DT size 4, the tail of my streamers vary from 1/2" to 3". I thought that adding stingers to the flies with longer tails would help and it did, but the shorter tailed flies(any flies without stingers) still do not seem to stick(penetrate?). I was wondering if a straight eye(my hooks) vs a down turned eye is making a difference? Thanks again Lance
  23. Hi Guys, I have been fishing alot of streamers lately and started tying my own. I am having some problems hooking fish on my own flies. I will feel the strike, set the hook(sometimes a strip set) and then the fish shakes his head a couple of times and is gone. It has happend many many times and has me thinking it is not coincidence. I added stinger hooks to my flies and started catching more fish, but sometimes the smaller streamer(no stinger) seems to work better. So I checked the hooks I have been tying on to find out that they are for saltwater. Would this make any difference? I have also upped my leader to 2.5' of Maxima 20lb and 2.5' of maxima 10lb with no real change in performance. It does not feel like the leader is stretching too much on the hook set, like it did before. The fish that I have caught on my streamers(without stingers), the hook falls out as soon as the fish is in the net or tension is released. I even had a rainbow miss and get foul hooked and the hook barely penetrated his skin, maybe a 1/4" or so. The fish I have caught with the stinger hooks, they are usually in the corner of there mouth or in the jaw and are tough to get out. I am going to buy some different streamer hooks but was wondering if this is part of my problem? Thanks Lance
  24. Hi guys, I was wondering about the land just downstream(west side of the river) of the Glenmore trail bridge over the bow. The land is marked as a wildlife refuge and that it is private property with no trespassing. I was interested in fishing some of the back channels that are on this property. I am assuming the high water mark rule applies and I should be ok if I stay in the water. I have tried to find out more info about this property/refuge with no luck other than what the signs say, so does anybody know anything about this property? Any info would be great! Thanks Lance
