  13. The Bow River Masters Fly Fishing Derby is a volunteer driven community event run in support of The Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada. The funds raised directly benefit deserving children living in Alberta and NWT who suffer from high-risk, life threatening illnesses. Following a traditional catch-and-release, single day derby format, points are awarded per fish landed. An excellent selection of prizes, including a fabulous West Coast Resorts fishing trip, motivates anglers to do anything within their means (and the rules) to avoid letting the big one get away. After a full day drifting the “trophy stretch” of the Bow River, participants are treated to a closing banquet and an awards ceremony. Testimonials speaking to the event’s excellence abound, but most importantly participants have commented on the satisfaction they left with knowing their day on the river translates to delivery of important community services to very deserving children. REGISTRATION FEES $3,000 per angling team or $1,600 per person. Registration includes meals, guide & boat (if requested) & shuttles. Event sponsorships are also available. We have registration info at the shop, or you can email us and we\'ll send you a pdf with the information. Be sure to encourage all of the fly shops to also become involved, this needs as much support as it can get (especially with the economic situation). We hope to see at least one boat per shop! Thanks for looking!
  14. Here's a link to a Youtube video that Alexandra Morton did, it describes the causes and effects of the salmon farming industry on wild salmon populations for those that don't know too much about it. It also doesn't require money to do anything about (though donations are always needed by organizations like Save our Salmon.) One of the simplest ways to help is to stop eating farmed salmon. At the grocery store read the labels, when eating out ask your waiter/waitress, and if in doubt don't buy it! -Caitlin @ CP's

  21. What's new at Country Pleasures and www.countrypleasures.com Taimen Fishing in Mongolia Brent and Caitlin are back from an unbelievable trip to Mongolia, doing research for the Taimen Conservation Fund. They saw some amazing fish, including a bunch over 40 inches. Taimen are possibly the most dramatic of any freshwater fish. They nuke mouse flies on top (which are fished 90% of the time), and leap like tarpon when hooked. They'll be sure to have hundreds of stories (including the 40.5 inch Taimen, caught on a 5 weight cane rod, a size 12 hopper and using 3x tippet!) Be sure to stop by and chat with them about this amazing trip. There are still some spots available in the Fall Season, to experience these unbelievable fish for yourselves. http://www.countrypleasures.com/mongolia_vacation.htm Grand Slams in Cuba Country Pleasures hosted a group of 12 anglers in Cayo Largo, Cuba, this past June. 16 Permit were hooked, with 7 Grand Slams and 1 Super Grand Slam Landed.
