    2011 will mark the 30th year for Country Pleasures Fly Fishing Schools. Over the years we have taught thousands of people - both men and women - to fly fish and we are confident that nobody does it as well as Country Pleasures.

    This school is perfect for beginner fly fishers who wish to learn the basics of fly fishing. Classes are based on a one-day format, commencing at 8:30 am and finishing by approximately 4:30 pm. Cost is $125 for all instruction and equipment, just show up and have fun!

    Topics covered include

    * » basic fly casting
    * » knot tying

    With purchase of tuition includes a significant store discount to help you make your first purchase as an educated fly fishing consumer. This option allows you, the angler, to pick the equipment that suites you best since as you will find out, not all rods, reels and lines are made equal!

    Special note: Country Pleasures will provide all tackle and equipment for the students to use during the schools. In fact, we would sincerely recommend that students not buy tackle prior to taking the School because they will be much better educated consumers after the School.
  4. Want to learn how to tie your own flies? This course is designed for the beginner tyer, teaching you techniques and patterns that are not only easy, but they work!

    Each School comprises eight lessons, from 7:00 - 9:00 pm on eight consecutive Monday nights starting January 17, 2011, for a total instruction of sixteen hours. All lessons will take place in the shop, with a maximum enrollment in each school of seven students, so there is lots of chance for individual attention.

    The tuition is $140 (plus GST) and each student will be responsible for supplying their own tools and materials during the course. All tools and materials are available at Country Pleasures. Enrollment is taken on a first-come first-served basis and a complete list of necessary tools and materials will be delivered to registrants at the time of registration.

    During the School students will learn to tie nymphs, streamers and dry flies, including local favourites and new patterns such as the San Juan Worm, Bead Head Nymphs, C.D.C Caddis, Stimulators, and Clouser Minnows. All flies are chosen for their effectiveness in local waters as well as the techniques required for their tying. Join us for your introduction to this fascinating hobby.

  7. Good News Ladies and Gents! New Staff, New Stuff and more things exciting!

    post-2530-1277566227.jpg

    CP welcomes new-ish staff member:

    Kevin Peterson: Many of you will recognize Kevin's face from the early ninety's when he first worked at Country Pleasures and we're pleased to welcome him back to the shop atmosphere. Kevin has been guiding the Bow for fifteen years and can't even remember when he started fly fishing. Kevin's always up to date with the latest fishing reports since he makes mutliple trips to the river each day to "keep an eye on her" and would willingly give up eating and sleeping hours in order to be fishing. You'll find Kevin a joy to talk to, and a great addition to the CP staff.

    CP also welcomes back Zach Southgate after a long year of studying hard:

    Zach comes back to CP this summer after gaining a ton of fly fishing experience over the last eight months. From fishing the Bow on all his free weekends and possibly missing a class or two (we won't tell your folks, Zach), Salmon fishing Vancouver Island, fishing Manitoba with the Canadian Youth Fishing Team and the list goes on. Now that Zach has his own truck, expect to see him in every moving and non-moving body of water in a 200 km radius of the shop.

  8. Just a quick heads up to those of you travelling to go fishing in Cuba in the next while....

    Effective May 1, 2010, legislation passed in early March come into law in Cuba stating that

    all foreign visitors entering Cuba must possess valid Travel Medical Insurance.

    Should you not have it you must purchase it from the Cubans and they'll likely be expensive.

    Nobody completely understands the possibilities of Capitalism like a Communist!

    You MUST present certificate showing you have medical insurance at immigration/customs when

    entering the country.

    Approved insurance carriers are RBC Insurance, Medjet, CIBC Insurance (that we know of right now)

    RBC Insurance is probably the cheapest at around $60 for a week.

    MAKE SURE YOU TAKE CERTIFICATE SHOWING YOU HAVE THE INSURANCE!

    Didn't want anyone getting caught without it!!! Have fun when you go!
