  1. Scotty has a mount type rod holder

Just mount it to the frame that sits on top of the toons. (Do not wrap it around the toon. i talked to dave scadden and told me that it could cause damage as the toons as they expand during the day warm up. if they toons burst he will void warranty)

when you say you can not use the fishing buddy traveling in water, do you mean going from place to place or when you are trolling or moving slowly? Was thinking of getting a fishin' buddy but wasn't quite sure if i should go that way or a portable one with a transducer.

  2. One and the same. The book is a treasure if you can find it.

I purchased that book must be at least 10 years ago. I had the same problem finding the product so I actually called him up. He and I had a lengthy call(phone bill was tremendous)as I forgot it was overseas. Very brillant man. He advised me to go two places to solve the issue:a static sign developer shop for the film and drafting store for panatone markers. I have enough of the material for 10 life times and it cost me zip as I pick up the material that the store classified as scrap.

It is clear film with a white glossy paper backing they use it as a base for store window signage and with a brush of the marker bam it is coloured(the colour does not wipe off as the film absorbs it in). Makes crazy works of art.

  3. Does anyone know who handles this stuff in town? Or at least a good substitute? I've heard Flexi-body is good because it's quite elastic and quite thick to make good segmented bodies (also Oliver Edwards uses it, so you know it's good....he's like fly tying's Chuck Norris!!)

Is oliver edwards the same person the wrote the book called "Masters Class" which had amazing life like stonefly imitations?

  4. Swivels - hmm I dunno how to really describe them, go over to the spinning section at wholesale and get them there I basically use three sizes, small, medium, large.

This was basaically my thoughts as well, that is why I am going unweighted nymphs this year (or as much as possible there are still some patterns I tie that uses a beed head)

As for weight I just use a bigger size barrowl swivel for slower water, no need to throw on a ton of weight espically in slower water when you get longer drifts and more time for the set up to sink.

So far this month I have caught 3 big browns with running this system but am really intrested to see how it works during the summer and fall months.

Would you be able to explain further on the set up you use? Is it leader(9'), swivel, tippet(? Inches), hook, tippet(? Inches), hook, tippet(? Inches), hook. or do you add more swivels along the line. Also is your cast style modified(slow open loops)

Received the order on Friday and all was there even a few free items. Products were top notch and yes they state that they accept Canadian Tire money on par......this will not be the last order for this place.

  6. Fyi,

Costco south has the new Minn Kota Traxxis in 50 lbs thrust. Cost is $399. I also contacted Minn kota regarding the $50 USD rebate and was told that it will qualify. Just need to add model number to the bottom of the list. This is the cheapest that I can find. 55 lbs thrust goes for $500 before rebate. Minn Kota also told me that the 5 lbs delta will not be a noticable difference.

  7. I agree that economic downturn has people spending less. But is it not better for a store to tell the folks that they are not getting more in vs telling them it will be in next week when they have no intentions? What bugs me more is that I called first and they told me that they stocked all the shelves even the specific product that I asked about.

Sorry for the rant. I feel much better.

  8. I have gone to Wholesale Sports back in Mid February and then Today and am very frustrated that the inventory of the fly tying materials hasn't changed. You do not need to have an MBA to figure out that if you have no stock you have no sales. I asked back in Feb if they were getting more stock in and they advised that the stock would be in over the next week or so. The same items that I asked about are still empty today. I asked again today and they told me to come back next week.

I think the staff have been sheep dipped way too long.

I need to find a better store.

  9. The lake is private and protected and paid for by the residents. Allowing unfettered access can lead to many, many problems as you can well imagine. That being said...as far as buddys/guests of mine are concerned there has been a constant stream of successful perch anglers leaving the lake with me on some weekends. :kicks:

30 fish a day will not remove the problem. Many people have 100 fish days and there is no dent in sight.

The best thing to do would be to rotenone from a time management perspective. Organic product...breaks down in 3 days...re-stocking 3 weeks later etc.

As for future vandalizm...education is key plus there has been no other vandals hitting the other Calgary Lakes for 10 years. People tend to know better now as fishermen hear about the dangers of illegal introduction of species. Once removed...I am confident the perch will not be back. We could always put up a $50,000 reward for the conviction of someone do that again.

Time will tell about the netting but for sure we are not talking a day here or a day there over the summer. We will need volunteers netting every weekend, hopefully some weekdays using 4 fyke nets and 2 gill nets and hopefully some long days and starting right after the ice is out to when the ice comes back. After two years of intensive netting and egg removal there should be a noticable decrease in the perch population or at least a chance of having enough space for some perch to grow faster and bigger to be worth eating.

In any event there will be some good feasts for some volunteers that want fish to eat. Using the how to clean a perch in 10 seconds method will mean a huge pile of perch to eat over the year.

Netting can be interesting and fun. When working one day we set nets over night. The next morning our fyke net had thousands of perch in it.

    Cheers

agree. i live in chaparral and would hate to have tonnes of outsiders on our lake. If you ever have a perch day and are willing to bring me and my family i am willing to come and do my part in perch annihilation. i used to be very efficient in perch cleaning. I could use couple hundred fish in my diet.

  10. Dude, that sucks, the big one LOL. So yea, cant you kill off the lake? like fish and wildlife does with some chemical? Do pearch taste good? perhaps next weekend i should come join you, and fill my freezer.

    Nick

Perch taste very good. Pan fried, pickled, and smoked. When I was young my neighbour would have perch on the smoker almost every day in the winter. Why don't the sundance board open the lake to fishing to non residents. The don't see. Possible down side as long as the residents have no issue. Maybe every other weekend. Where I grew up we had an amazing perch fishery but with a 30 daily limit in less then 5 years you couldn't catch a fish as they were eliminated.

  11. Mr Big,a couple things about pontoons and electric motors .You may have to stiffen the transom up a little with some wood or what ever if your going to put a big motor on it.The anchor rope deploys right beside the motor ,not such a big deal on stillwaters.Pontoon boats don't have a keel to track the boat straight.Where the motor is will be the front of the boat ,and you will have to turn the motor 180deg.so the motor will pull the boat.As Tepety says you steer with the oars ,or if just let the oars drag in the water it will keep you straight .If you want to troll really slow you can turn the motor back 180deg.and run it in reverse this will be your slowest speed .Hope this helps ..

Why can't the motor push the boat. I was planing on having it on the back of the boat and as you would on an alum boat and let it push me forwards.

    Tung can you explain further.

  12. What is the total loaded weight? Where are you going to troll(I assume lakes?) I was on MinnKota's pro-staff for 3 years. There is no reliable, practical conversion from ft/lbs to hp. An electric is essentially a "work" drive and an outboard is a "speed" drive. No real comparison.

Two person pontoon boat 100 lbs. Two people with gear 500 lbs. Will be used on lakes when not floating on the bow. Was told get the largest that I can get but 80 lbs are very $$$$.

  13. Anyone know of anyone that transfers video to disc that is readable by computer for the purpose of extracting still images for the video footage. We have a client that requires the use of such a service but this is not our area of expertise or knowledge. Any help greatly appreciated.

I have transferred VHS to DVD by using my Pioneer DVD recorder and a DVD-RW disc. takes a while but works perfect.
