I need to drive my truck, make some mud bogs, destroy some vegetation so I can park my truck 10 feet from the water. Walk some where....that is crazy talk

The lack of respect in the world today is incredible. What ever happened to leaving the place cleaner than you found it?
I remember as a kid we would move rocks out of the way to pitch the tent. When we were packing up, my Dad would make us replace the rocks! I sure miss the old days we people cared about the woods and the next the guy coming

Me and another guy built a lot of fence along the Dogpound while working for Fish and Wildlife in the mid-80's. We also built a lot of log walls to stabilize the eroding banks. The fences were to keep the cows off the banks and direct them to certain watering areas. The landowner still owns the land from the fence to the water's edge, unless there has been some legal agreement established by the government. Government funds just paid for the fence for habitat protection, the fence does not necessarily mean you can walk streamside without permission. It would be wise to speak to the landowner before stepping out of the water....which you know you will be doing

The irrigation district also has a habit of shutting the water pretty much off to the river at the dam and diverting all the water to the Belly, then------> St. Mary's river. In other words, screw the trout and give the water to the farmers.

The Cutthroats and Bulls in Line Creek and the Fording River BC have been decimated by coal mining.
The concentration of Selenium in the downstream waters is now 25X acceptable levels. There are a number of deleterious effects documented from significant levels of Selenium.
Do we need more industialization, sediment, and Selenium leaching in an area where the threatened Bull trout go to spawn?

Where the grass meets the mud....that pretty much leaves you standing in the water in a lot of places.
Probably best to talk to the landowner along the section you want to fish before you get started. Having run-ins with grumpy guys sours the day

Uberfly, I think you are missing something.
Regs say you can ONLY fish Sept1-Oct 31 below Gorge Creek......Thus TARGETING STAGING bulls at that time.
There appears to be NO FISHING June 16-Sept1 (when the bulls are NOT STAGING).
Regs left out the OPEN June16-Sept1 box

I have a 5wt 8' 6" RPL that rotates between dries and a sink tip(6wt line...still works).
I casted a friends's 5wt Recon....nice fast rod. It could do a sink tip

I appreciate that the government has recently shown far greater interest in the Bow river trout population. The river has been ignored for a long time because it just seemed to look after itself and we were blessed with awesome fishing for decades. I understand the complexity of the problem and the difficulty of narrowing down a short list of the most powerful factors putting pressure on the trout population. I just wanted to clarify that I have trouble going along with the suggestion the angling is THE MAJOR contributor to the population decline. For me, I have a feeling that it has more to do with the environment/water quality/habitat/disease than the number of hooks in the water. In the short term, it would seem prudent to try and do something in an area we can actually control.....angling. It would make sense that any help we can offer to the river would be wise. I guess time will tell if the trout populations will bounce back. I have seen significant fluctuations in the condition factors of the trout in the past, both rising and falling, since the 1970's. There have been years that produced huge fish even while the nutrient input from the sewage plants was decreasing with technological advancements. There are so many pieces to this puzzle.
On a positive note, the rainbows that I have seen caught in the last month look to be in much better condition than they have been in the last 2 years. There are a few more fish breaking 20" and they are much heavier. Hopefully something good is going on

Really??? Angling is THE MAJOR contributor to population decline. Do we know who made this suggestion? Was it the author of the paper that summarized all the bad science from the past?
