  1. Heading to Sooke next week. Guess I'll leave the rod at home... Like I woulda had time to fish anyway at a Scout Jamboree :). Afternoon water temps on the Crow last weekend were between 15 and 18. Can only imagine they're higher now.

You make sure you take good care of those kids.

My daughter is with Woodcreek Scouts 401 and will be attending.

Good on ya for taking this on!

  2. I have the Hardy Ultralight DD on my 9'6" 6wt Access and I love it. I also had an Access reel on my Access rod, and loved it too. Both are light in weight and have a great drag on them. The hardy is a larger arbor, so it will retrieve the line much quicker and, in my opinion, is a sharper looking reel. I have two Access reels, one for my 5wt BVK and one for my 3wt BVK. Both balance the rod well, and can handle anything I put it through.

From what I understand about the nautilus reels, is that they are pretty bomb proof and are great for both freshwater and saltwater fishing. So if you plan on taking the rod to the flats, you can easily adapt it. I have no experience with the nautilus reels, nor salt water fishing, so take this with a grain of salt lol

  3. I would strongly recommend Jim McLennan's intermediate fly fishing class, Befriending the Bow. I took it a couple years ago when it was called Listening to the Bow, and I have to say, it was a great class. He teaches you the different structures to look for, different techniques on fishing them, etc. He's a great instructor, and reasonably priced for an all day course.

    Check them out: http://www.mclennanflyfishing.com/

  4. I use the Simms neoprene socks in my wading boots for wet wading. I use a thin athletic sock underneath, just for padding so they fit better and it works great.

You don't HAVE to use socks, but I find that my boots fit better that way, so I do. I find that it keeps your feet MUCH warmer too. Once the initial shock of the cold water gets in there, your body warms it up and then stays body temperature, even when wading further. I love them.

  5. Yes. Open all the way.

What you need to do, if you're getting on in the north is to follow the road all the way south. Be sure to steer clear of the right lane as you get to 22x and be sure to follow the signs. The lanes bugger off in all different directions around 22x/Deerfoot, so you can easily find yourself going the wrong way in a hurry. And, if you're like all other drivers in Calgary, then you'll likely try to peel over at the last second, cut off several vehicles in the process and cause a major accident and basically screw up traffic for hours. The bright side is that you may hold up some other fishermen from coming down and low holing you because they are stuck in traffic. So maybe go for it.

I hope that this is enough detailed information for you. I wouldn't want BigFoamy come after me for not being helpful in your time of need.

    Cheers and happy travels.

  6. Anyone delt with snowbee? Have one of their rods that I barely used, snapped the tip, only rod I managed to break so far. However I am not sure how to deal with their warranty, and who to ask for help as I don't want to ship overseas. The shop I bought it from has been closed.

Contact CDone (Colin Done) on the board. I think he can help you there. Snowbee rep, if I'm not mistaken.

  7. I have had no issues with any of the rods that I have broken over the years.

Broke my old Sage Launch tip and had it replaced in a reasonable time through Fish Tales.

Orivs sections that have broken I dealt with Country Pleasures on, but have since just dealt with Orvis directly and the service has been amazing!

The only rod that I haven't broken are my TFO rods (knock on wood), but I am comforted in knowing that I can just drive to their warehouse in town and have it replaced immediately.

Reddington, for the record, has been amazing to deal with on warranty for my waders. I have nothing but positive things to say about them.

  8. Was really impressed until I read that the fees are in US funds, So impressed I was going to book a 8 day,7 fly outs for me and the wife. Than she said paid in US funds and i Said forget it am Canadian am not paying in In US funds to fish somewhere in Canada

If you read the fine print below that, it said for Canadians to call directly for a quote. Maybe they have special deals for Canadian residents. Won't know unless you call :-)

  9. I had this same issue happen on my Sonic Pro Waders that I bought through Fish Tales.

I had Reddington Warranty them directly for me once for leaks. I then contacted them about the zipper as it would just buckle and come undone.

Talked to Dave at Fish Tales and they had them replaced for me with the new ones. The zipper issue has been around for a while.

So, I would contact Reddington directly, as I don't think you are in Calgary and have easy access to Fish Tales to have them do it for you, and see what they will do. Reddington, for me, has been a dream to deal with, so contact them right away.
