I saw this set up last year but I did not look closely. Can any of you guys (guides) explain how to set this up and what additional gear, if any, is required?
This is the set up where the anchor rope is doubled up (?) and this makes it easier to pull up the anchor.

I'd love to attend, hopefully dates work for my schedule.

That is a real beauty. There definitly is something nostalgic ( at least for me, maybe because I'm older?) about the Hardy's

Great seminar Mike, best trick learned was the use of the mini-welder to make a hole for the eyes! Now I need to one of those!

Relube your reel before you go with a high grade water resistant oil/grease, the type used for outboards that run in the salt. Generally available from Cdn.Tire
While away in the salt, rinse out the reel every day and take the spool with you when you shower. When you get back home, strip the line and as much of the backing as got salted +50 feet and soak in a bucket for a few hours, plus the reel. Relube and you are good to go.
Note: even some SW rated reel may have parts (mostly small screws) that are not SW rated and corrosion will ruin them.

This the one i use Peter ,the little "V" notch in the end is what makes it easy Once you have made the knot pull it off with a sharp pull onto your fly line .It also works well for nailing your loops.I like the shrink sleeve idea for loops or just wrapping thread .
I've tried all sorts of tools, this one works for me, now, because some friend insisted on this portion of using the tool "pull it off with a sharp pull" !, which is what I was NOT doing with the tool.

It would be a loss to all, if Gord left the board, I for one enjoy the insights and comments.
On the matter of "one brand" maybe I've been around these types of public posting "Boards" for too long. I believe people speak best about what they know best and I've not found any of the posts regarding LOOP or other brands to be overly "promotional". If posters are "Pro-Staff" with any brand, they should acknowledge this in their signatures and readers can take what they want from it. Maybe this thread will cause some folks to moderate their posts, but I'm 100% with Toolman about censorship. Whether a "poster" has (or not) some vested interest in a product, this should not preclude them from sharing their knowledge, short of outright ADVERTISING by the manufacturer.

#1, good advice already sent, go see a doctor and lay off for a while, don't bum up your upcoming summer!
I had a friend who got the same problem a few years back. Partly arthitis (*common in us old guys) and mostly casting style/stoke. Correction came when he took an hour with a casting coach, learned to shoot line Vs. aerilizing too long a line and changed his line to a shorter head section, same 5Wt as he had before but different configuration. Not all lines are built the same even if they are listed as WF. Pills took care of the arthritis, under medical direction.

Had a great time, met lots of coool folks and caught up on my own casting. Let's do it again.

Dune, I'll be at the gathering on Sunday and I'll have sveral "trout Speys' 12'2" fast(er) action for 5/6/7 lines and 13" traditional action/soft(er) for lines 6/7 and a 9'8" switch rod for lines 6/7/8 if you want to check them out.
