  1. can you really catch them on poppers? like would a dahlberg diver work or what
  2. i was not being sarcastic, i thought about the implications of defaming your provincial fish with my ignorant texas hands and i changed my mind
  3. sorry that was a stupid question, I was just wondering people's favorite river not secret spots or anything nvm mods can delete it if they want lol
  4. Has the highwood, livingstone, oldman, or what produced best for you guys? What fly too if you don't mind me asking?
  5. I have already asked more than is my right about fly selection and stream info and such, but I only have a month of good fishing for the entire year and I do not want to blow it because of ignorance. In my bow river staples thread I got some great advice and now i guess I just need oldman, ram, livingstone, waterton, crowsnest staples lol
  6. That is a good idea but it was sold out and I thought maybe one of the seasoned pros on the board could assemble an even better Bow River pack. I might just buy the flies that make up the bow rive pack though but i don't know if I would get the 6 free flies then
  7. This is kind of a big request and I really would be fine if nobody wanted to do it but I was looking to get my dad a late fathers day gift and I want to get him 35 or so flies from ickyflyworks for use on the bow and southern alberta cuttie streams, but I am severely uneducated and I don't want to blow it on the wrong flies,,, so i was hoping one of you experts could tell me what your 35 fly selection would look like for mainly the bow and also use on the old man etc. THANKS SO MUCH AND I REALLY DO NOT MIND IF I GET NO TAKERS - andy
  8. What are the best dry flies for FTR rivers like the oldman, livingstone etc.? I would love to fish dries so any recs?
  9. Thanks maxwell, do you use multiple nymph rigs or what usually? I'm also surprised that the SJW did not make the cut, I guess that is a given?
  10. I already posted about the SJW, but that got me thinking about other Bow River essentials. If you could choose 5 or 6 flies to use on the bow what would they be?
  11. Silverdoctor, if you have seen that they catch more fish, i will tie those as well. Do you have a recipe or video you could share so I know what materials to buy?
  12. So the general consensus is that the wire-wrapped hooks are the most effective? I will get tying thanks
  13. Could you guys post the exact hook sizes, and types of wire etc. because I am going to try to buy all the materials today and I don't know what exactly to get.
  14. What San Juan Worm recipe have you guys had the most luck with on the bow specifically? Brass Beads? Wire? post your most successful san juan worm pattern and maybe give a video or instructions if you have it Thanks! Andy
  15. I know that the Bow is the premier Alberta river so I would like to give it its due. -So when is the best time for Bow fishing during July and how many days should I devote solely to it? -Also, since the trunk road is apparently 400+ miles long what would be the most worthwhile section to drive and where do I go to access it? Any directions? - Also any other ideal July Calgary itinerary ideas would be fantastic! Sorry to beg for so much valuable information but I only spend 1 month a year up there, so I will not be hogging all the spots or anything and my Dad does not get out much so I need to get ideas from you guys. Thanks for all your help! Andy
  16. No thats okay Id like to get it on my own. Thanks for the input on the Trunk Forest Road and the Elk River, I really like the sound of those. But is the elk river special enough to warrant its own trip or is it too similar to the Forest Road streams?
  17. Actually, I have already gone on 2 guided bow river trips and 2 guided texas coast redfish trips and I have been fly fishing for 3 years. I can cast fine and warmwater and saltwater fly fishing have been no problem, but trouting on my own has proved particularly daunting. I am hoping to figure it out this summer, and I was just asking for some more friendly spots, not some stupid-easy places for someone who has never cast
  18. Thanks everyone, that trunk road sounds good! What river does it run along and is there any camping there? I will definitely stock up on the listed flies Teck, thanks alot
  19. I think that could lead to a lot of frustrating wasted time as I am a beginner and would not know the first thing about fly selection, fishable water, leader length, or indicator rigging
  20. Is the elk river forgiving to beginners? What flies are recommended?
  21. I fished cataract creek last July which was easy fishing, but the fish were very small so I am hoping for a little bigger than 4-5" this year
