  1. After reading my copy on the plane over the weekend, lets just say I'm without. Wondering if anyone has a copy handy and can list the flys he suggest in the tar sands article. Please skim the hangingstone section to see if he highlights any particular ones if you have time. Thanks
  2. What should you do when you gut hook a trout? I've heard guys say that you should clip the tippet as close as possible. I see this working on big trout and small flies, but what about small trout and big flies. I caught a 8" trout last night on a No 10 beadhead wooly bugger, little guy swallowed the hook and was hooked about 2" down his throat. With the hook basically blocking his whole throat I tryed removing the hook, which proved to be time consuming. Sorry to say this little guy or gal didn't make it. It it typically for deep hook sets when slow stripping subsurface flies, I haven't done much of it?
  3. I’ve been practicing my kung fu, I feel a little stronger and can now see a beautiful butterfly. Still not at the same level as you SJW (but few are.......... ).............better get back to training and maybe I'll be able to unlock the secrets of the two remaining scrolls.
  4. All I see are white boxes with a red X. Does anyone know what causes this?
  5. SAGD side of Long Lake. With living in town and sharing a ride from site, I don't stray to far from town for fishing.
  6. MTB The streams opened as of June 1, with the Horse being my first attemp at running water. I'm going to try Saline and Saprea (sp?) hopefully before I head home on Thursday. The Hangingstone will be open during my next rotation, so I hope to fish it a few time next week.
  7. The rod in question is a 6wt 9 foot 4 pc. There is no stripper guide on the lower section of this rod, so there is approx 30" between reel and first guide. I was thinking about adding another about halfway in between , probably about a 60/40 split away from the reel. Do you guys think this might impact casting ability. I know that sage should know best, but it seems like a awlful long distance without a guide.
  8. Maybe if you were a mountain goat you would be able to access the horse along the Atha. Tried it last night, and after a couple hundred feet I decided that the fishing wasn't worth it. I did find out that my right leg is apparently longer than my left, cus I had a harder time coming back the same route.........lol. I found a few flies last night that I would like to ID. First one I think was a Golden Stone, about a 1 1/4" long wings covering the abdomen, six legs with a yellowish under body. I did see several white shucks along the river bank about 7/8-1" long. Second one I'm guessing is a yellow sally, about 5/16" long, bright yellow body, with 4 wings, white to transparent. Can anyone confirm if I'm right or not, I don't see a problem with tying something to match, but I would like to know what I'm tying? I might be totaly off on these as this is the first time I've seen either of these flies. Thanks
  9. Wondering if anyone can help me out with access to the Horse River. Would it be best to walk the Mile along the Atha or is there access from Albasands. I know I could use the try and see method, but I don't have much time after work to go exploring. Thanks in advance.
  10. I just got back from a family trip to DW. Fun to be had for all ages, next time my wife and I are leaving the kids at home..........lol
