  1. Peter, A couple of the shop guys were down in December to La Paz and they ran into the issue of needing a fishing license even to go out with a guide. Typically the guide takes care of the license as it is part of you trip fee for the day but the season was slow when they were there so the guides said they needed to look after it them selves. I have also spoken to a couple of other customers since who were down and they both said you needed a license. Here is the website that you can use for the Baja license. Not expensive at all. Good luck down there. David http://www.bajasursportfishing.com Price per Person per Day $ 10.02 USD Price per Person per Week $ 19.66 USD Price per Person per Month $ 27.67 USD Price per Person per Year $ 35.69 USD
  2. Colin - No Wayne didn't order that in. I know we will be doing another order within two weeks though. Doc - We did also get the Blue Halo blanks in!! Guys are building them right now in the course. Hope this helps. David
  3. I'm not on here much but just happened to check in today. We just got our shipment from Batson into the shop (Fish Tales) today and there were two 9' 5wt 4pc Eternity blanks in the order. (We won't get them into the computer for a few days so don't know pricing yet.) We put one together to feel it and it was most certainly not soft. Had a nice fast action feel to it and we were suitable impressed. And the colour is stunning a very very nice blue! One fellow is building one shortly so will be able to cast it in a month or so. I've already told Wayne (our building expert) to bring more blanks in in 7 through 9 as we think they will be very nice pike/salmon/saltwater rods. Just thought I'd mention it. David
  4. Brian, Same fish for sure. We named it Skeletor! I was rowing for a couple of buddies but Chris S (he had to row after that fish) caught it as part of double header. He ate a skid bitch. Very healthy fish despite the mangled jaw. Largest fish of the day on Thursday July 21st. When did you have the pleasure of meeting him? David
  5. In the words of a famous movie "There Here"! Come on by after 7pm tonight to give these rods a cast if you like. We will have refreshments and some food from local restaurants to help make this a great get together. We have a selection of rods ranging from 3wt through 12wt all with reels and lines ready to cast. The perk loomis is offering is a free soft shell jacket (we sell it for $150) to everyone who orders a rod during this first week of the launch. All of the ones we have are demo rods for casting durning this event so that fly fishers can get a good feel for them. Hopefully the rain stops this afternoon, which it is supposed to, and will allow some good conditions for everyone to try out these rods. I've only cast two of them so far and will be interested in peoples reaction. Hope to see you there. David Fish Tales Fly Shop
  6. Yep it's the large feathers from Todd who was at the Fly Fishing show just down from our booth. David
  7. jayjj11 I'm fairly certain that the guys at Fishtales have been doing Cuba for the fewest amount of years, compared to the 2 shops just up the road We don't post a lot but I had to on this one. Mr jayjj11 you should not make statements like the above without knowing the scoop. Fish Tales has been doing trips to Cuba longer than any of the other shops. This year actually marks our 10th year going down there. Skyguy just stop by the shop or email and we can see about helping you out. The guides who work in the area near Varadero, Clive is right about the drive times, are into their busy season so there is limited availabilty at certain times. Hope this helps. David Fish Tales

  14. Just noticed this topic and thought I'd let you know what the scoop is. Last week a car hit the area between our shop and the one next door. In the collision our window was broken and the frame and wall was damaged. Now we have to wait for the insurance companies to do their things. A fellow from the "restoration" company was actually by today to take a look at what had to be done. It will be several more weeks though I'm sure. We are open and what the deal was yesterday, we had forgot to turn on the OPEN sign. When I came back to the shop about 5pm it did look like the store was completely closed so I can sure see why MarkD you thought it was closed. We are on our winter hours now so the shop is open M-F 9am to 7pm Sat 9am to 5pm and Sunday 11am to 4pm. We are counting inventory right now so are having lots of "fun"!! Stop on by and you might be asked to count how many "peacock herl" are missing thanks to BGFNFSH!!!!!! David Fish Tales
  15. Used the new Policeman's launch Thursday 19th and there is no question you had to know what you were doing rowing a boat to get into the launch to take out so please be careful with these high flows. Putting in is relatively easy but it is too small as oars touch each side once your boat is in the water. The damage to the launch is very minimal as I also happened to be there (and put in to "speed float") when the water was at the peak 10 days ago. A small amount of gravel got washed away from the side as the water had started to come through the trees and along the road right at the start of where they dug out the launch. We are very lucky that the river didn't even come up a few more inches as when Terry and I were there the water was actually higher than the parking lot and the only thing keeping it back was the berm they built. Everything worked well for that amount of flow but any higher and I'd only give it a 50/50 chance of surviving. I don't post often and most likely wont get a chance to add more to this if people are looking for info. I can say though that Terry got a beauty of a Brown close to Southland on the float. It was 26" and a weighed 6 pounds with the New Zealand "de-liar!!!" weigh net. I've also heard that the drift trips (upstream of the Highwood) the past two days have been much better than our trip on Thursday with the water going down since. David Fish Tales
