Are you confusing the South Saskatchewan and North Saskatchewan plans, because the topic says south but the message is about the north plan. SSRP consultation was 4 or 5 years ago but NSRP is current.

    Marc ,

You are so astute! Me... not so much!!

  2. Apparently they are still looking for feedback?

    Dear friends,

The Government of Alberta is currently in the process of developing a Regional Plan for the North Saskatchewan Region of Alberta.  The plan will provide the policy integration, direction and clarity needed to help guide decisions that collectively reflect and support the needs and values of Albertans; it will help to achieve Alberta’s long-term economic, environmental, indigenous and social outcomes for the region.

Regional plans are a key element of the Land Use Framework (LUF), which was released in December 2008. The LUF establishes seven land-use regions and commits to the development of a regional plan for each. The next step in the planning process for the North Saskatchewan Regional Plan is the public release of the Recommendations Report from the North Saskatchewan Regional Advisory Council.

Established in 2014, the Regional Advisory Council was comprised of individuals with a cross-section of knowledge, experience, and perspective in the region who were appointed to develop recommendations to government on how to address the region’s issues and challenges.  Advice from the RAC, in addition to feedback from the public and stakeholders, will guide development of the draft land use plan for this region.

    You are invited to:

Read the North Saskatchewan Regional Advisory Council’s Recommendations Document available at:

    Recommendations Document

Provide your input in the online survey through May 4, 2018 at:

    Online survey

The release of the draft regional plan will initiate another round of consultation to gather feedback before the plan is finalized.

We appreciate your input regarding Alberta’s regional plans. If you have any questions or comments please contact the Land Use Secretariat.

  3. Deb and I are on a ski tour of the Koots and it's was pissin rain up high today so we decided to tour the local natural history museum in Nelson (very cool exhibit, by the way). Came upon this cool story about an early fly fishing guide, from Norway, by the name of Ole Skattebo... The cool part IMO, was his attitude (elitist to some, I'm sure) "Holding others to high standard. Ole allowed no trolling. He frowned deeply at drinking and carousing. He was known to be unable to find a boat or those who did not behave the way he thought a fly fisherman should".

Words of wisdom in this (our present) day and age!!

Please do let us know! Im in the same situation and I messaged the CPs account on this forum a couple days ago and am awaiting a reply. Any info to help would be great, thanks

Apparently she contacted Mike via Facebook and he responded. Said he would set up something for her this summer...

Maybe get a hold of him through Facebook?!

  5. Gang,

I wanted to share an update with you all. So I heard from my  colleague at work who purchased a gift certificate before Christmas and she followed-up with Mike via Facebook. Apparently he’s followed up with her and says he will do something for her ( I don’t have the details yet), and I’m hoping that he does ( no reason to think otherwise at this point)... I will keep you all informed on the details when I speak with her.

  6. I will look at the survey when I have more time, and participate. I'll be sure to comment on mandating a classified system for non residents and increase enforcement (and limiting/eliminating random camping, OHV an resource development use for that area - as that is how I feel, others feel differently, I realize), if there is an opportunity to do so...

That's unfortunate, I was gifted a gift certificate for country pleasures that was purchased just 2 weeks ago. I wish there had been a word of warning of the closure so I could have used it

Yes I just had a colleague at work tell me that she bought her husband a gift certificate for Christmas for a learn to fly fish day. I hope there is some way to honour those!

The orvis zippered booties are good. Biggest thing is wearing a long sock to keep sand out... that’s what kills ya. My feet were toast after using wading sandals and having rocks and coral work there way in

A neoprene sock or cotton sock?

You don't have to take your bedding out of the tent when you pack it up, which is also a bonus if you have to set up camp in the rain. It takes me 5-10 minutes to fully set up or take down by myself. There are lots of benefits over a regular tent, like not having to find flat ground, no worries about waking up in a puddle, don't have issues with cold ground, one less thing to pack inside your vehicle. There are tradeoffs and they aren't anyone's cup of tea, but I'll never go back to a ground tent at this point.

Marc, what do you do for leveling out if you park in uneven ground? Just curious?

Resurrecting an old thread, but is the building of "restaurants, hotels and other tourism amenities" really that much better than the squatters we had to deal with previously?

Please take the time to fill this out and voice your concerns with developing the Castle.

In some (most) ways, yeah! At least there will be a level of control. Where as now, it’s a free for all *hit show with little to no respect for the area!!

Has anyone ever used regular aluminum hex screws for studs?  They are only ~$3 for 20 at the hardware store.  Wonder how these would work before spending $40-50 on 'specialty' studs.

This is what I was saying with the Patagonia ones... They work well, but don't last long (I got a bit longer life from the Simms - but still not worth the $ in my opinion). The other issue is the hole that they make - you will end up losing anything else you might use in the future (KK or Simms) b/c they have a smaller diameter thread... So if you buy 100 pack, then you can swap out as they wear. Definitely better value buying from a Hardware store. Might get better life from KK or the MEC ones?

OK what the ..................??? The regular price in the above link is only $60 higher than the price for men's SST jackets in the link below.

    Still a decent price but..............................................

Looks like they streamlined it a bit taking away some of the features. I like the older style...

  13. I'm trying to decided between the Kold Kutters and these (https://www.mec.ca/en/product/5053-086/Boot-Traction-Stud-Kit). I like the thread pattern of the MEC ones, but I think the downside is the hole they would create would limit using something else if one wanted to replace a lost stud with say a Kold Kutter...

I have used both the Patagonia (aluminum hex screws) and Simms hard bite studs. The Patagonia wear out pretty quickly (not worth the $ money they charge when you can go to Home Depot and buy the exact same thing - thank goodness for prodeals) and the Simms are just too expensive and pretty much last one season of hard use (a lot of similar feedback online)!! LOVED the Lugs that I bought with my gen 1 Korker Guide boots those were awesome!!
