  1. I have been trying them on shanks and joining them with a split ring. I also am connecting a short shank hook to the back with a split ring. It allows you to

tie up the whole thing w/ out a hook and then select your preferred 'goto' short shank. This gives the fish nearly 0 leverage and I think adds better action in the water. Got the split ring idea from Max.

    Al,

Are you able to post a photo to better illustrate what you mean?!

    Thx,

  2. You could do a repair, but there's no real guarantee of how long it will last.

It would be fairly easy to remove the old epoxy and thread from the ferrule wrap and re-wrap it, how long of a crack is it? Any repair would have to stop it from moving anymore.

Hi Colin, thanks for the info... The crack is probably a cm or so. It would definitely need to be rewrapped as the original epoxy is what has flaked off and initiated it loosening up. Would you be interested in that task?! If so, how much would cost? ( $ or beer/wine/scotch, etc ;-)

    Cheers!

  3. Is the female end cracked at all? If not you might be able to cut the male end a little to allow the female part to fit over better/deeper. (why do I all of a sudden feel so dirty?). If it is a cracked ferrule and depending on how bad a crack, you will probably need a re-wrap/finish of the area to strengthen it up again. If you want me to take a look at it drop me a PM.

    Hi Colin,

Yes female end is cracked - does that mean it's pooched?!

  4. You could try just using black electrical tape to hold it in place (like on Spey rods), or get ahold of CDone - he does repairs I believe.

Glenbow, Thanks for your input, yes I have even done the electrical tape repair, but was hoping for something more permanent and less cheesy (no insult intended to those who use the electrical tape repair ;-)

  5. Can anyone recommend some where or someone that does (reasonable) rod repairs?! The rod I have isn't an expensive one and I would prefer to repair it rather then trash it, so that my girlfriend or nephew can then use it. It is a two piece and the female end that the ferrule fits into has loosened up (no jokes please ;-) so the rod comes apart 2 -3 times throughout a given day on the water... Or if someone has a reco on how to repair it myself, I would also appreciate that (epoxy, zap a gap, etc. to thicken up the ferrule end doesn't seem to work).

    Thanks in advance!

  6. Last week I went online at Orvis and I had a reel and line picked out, I went to the checkout and backed out when I saw the $65 shipping fee.

Today I went back on and picked my reel and line then went to the checkout WOW line was $0.00 and the shipping charge was $35.00 so I now have some new bling coming my way :D

Did the same thing in Dec, but sent it to someone in AZ who's coming up next week! Bought 2 LA reels and and extra spool for under CND$300!!

  7. Need some opinions here people...Looking at a new reel for my 6wt. I already have a sage 2550 for my 5wt and was wondering what people thought of other reels out there Abel, Voessler, Bauer, Orvis at the same price range. Have looked at some bauers and some orvis and they look nice but thought i would get the skinny on some other ones. Also in the mean time can i rock my 2550 on my 6wt??

Just bought 2 Orvis Battenkill LA reels a III (for a 5 - 7 wt) & II (for a 3 - 5 wt) plus an extra spool on the Orvis website for the same cost as just one here @ Monods in Banff (having a friend bring them up after Christmas). I have heard VERY good things about the Orivs Battenkill LA's (including a stellar warrantee/guarantee), plus the price is/was just too good to pass up (including exchange, tax & shipping)!! Check them out - stock is somewhat limited by now, I would suppose...
