  1. You will have to check both rods and reels upon your return to Canada!

Mexico no longer allows them to be carried on!! This has been in effect for about 5 years or so...

P.S. be careful with pliers, etc. I've had to fight many a time with the CATSA agents! Make sure you understand what you can and cannot bring through security (they don't alway know their rules)!

Also be sure to take photos of your gear before checkin in Mexico so you can prove they weren't broken if they arrive broken!

There is supposed to be another one out by Jumping Pound, just west of Cochrane. I can't remember the name of it but I have heard stories of some of the encounters.

Yup I pulled the Land Title for that one! They don't have any stream beds rights anymore (at least the section that I have fished and I have the title for)!

  3. You are allowed to access any "navigable" waterway (that's not on reserve land) though access point like bridges and travel along the high water mark.

Only 1 (maybe) 2 have water rights in Alberta = most say they do but do not! One is Sara's in the CNP area.

I have pulled land titles before for places I have fished in the past that have said they have water rights to prove they do not.

  4. Best to go cast a bunch (if that's possible for you). As I'm sure you know, what works for one may not be the best for someone else... I use Winston rods and had 5 wt, 6 wt, 8 wt & 10 wt BIIIx rods (which are medium fast action rods) in my quiver. While my wife and I were taking a casting lesson with Linda McLennan (to improve our casts for a salt trip to the Corn Islands in Nicaragua) she noticed that they were too soft for my casting stroke... So I purchased Winston Plus rods for me (which are fast action rods)  and now cast much further, smoother and more accurately. Thankfully the BIIIx rods worked well for my wife.

  5. Pretty much all of my clients have cancelled (all from the U S)... They said they will all book with me next year (I have given refunds, a few wanted credits for next year)...

I know most (in both the Mountain Guiding stream and fishing guides) are in the same boat (no pun intended). AEP and Parks Canada haven't even approved my permits... That's after I've paid for my Kananaskis Business License and liability insurance... I'm already in the hole and doubt I'll bring in any revenue...

Tax loss this year, I guess...
