As a really new tyer I have to say, Thanks. My biggest concern about entering swaps was not being able to tie professional looking flies...yet I entered anyways. That way maybe I can get some feedback from others who have more experience tying that I can use to improve the quality of my flies.

I'd have to say for myself it uncertain of my abilities. But like you said its a good way to learn. You've seen my tying LS but you make a good point so I signed up for the current swap. Thanks for the proverbial kick in the arse

I was going to use tinsel & ribbing but they didn't have any at the fly shop out here. I didn't want to wait until I went to Calgary next time. The one I got from Dave at the expo used the piping so I thought I'd try it. His looks better but then he was a commercial tyer. I guess I could just ask him about it when I take his tying course later his month. I got a few new pix I'll post for you.

I'm new to tying & I'm still learning how to deal with materials. I'm trying a Mickey Finn & using mylar piping. Anyone have any tricks for keeping the woven ends under control while I tie them in?

Coldest: Hiked up into Taylor Lake in late September a couple years ago. It took about 25 minutes to bushwack my way to the far end of the lake below the half frozen waterfall. It was about 2C & while moving my footing to land a nice cutthroat I stepped on the wrong submerged rock & ended up sitting in 8" of almost frozen water. I still landed the cutthroat & got a friend for him too. It was a long cold hike back to the truck though. Neatest: After picking up my daughter from jail (her mother's) we planned to stop at Quarry Lake & fish on our way home. It started raining & she didn't want to fish but wanted to see if she could see the Greyling. They were spawning & close to the edge. We didn't see to many but we did get to watch an Osprey trying to catch its dinner. It wasn't having any luck either.

I've got a hand you can borrow, but I'm not a tyer yet I looked at that double 3rd hand tool. I bought one years ago at Radio Shack that I use for soldering. You could check with somewhere like Active Electronics to see what they have.
