I should have specified online supplier. Not sure if I would make it to Calgary before Christmas.
-
So my son requested a fly rod built by me for Christmas. For some reason he prefers that over a ready made one. I guess it has more meaning for him. I had built a couple a few years back but I can't remember where I got the components from. Do anyone know of a Canadian supplier that could maybe possibly supply a reasonably priced kit or help a person put a package together? My son is just beginning to take up fly fishing so I don't really want a high end rod.

That is sad news. My condolences to his friends and family. Myth, I know you were a very good friend of his. I had met Jeff (and Myth) several times over the few years at Bullshead. He always had a beer for you and a story to tell. He had a passion for fly fishing and was especially passionate about Bullshead. He was a great guy and Bullshead will miss him. Catch the big ones where ever you are Jeff.

That looks good. I bookmarked it. Yes, Canadian Llama is the place to go for hooks and beads

Thanks for your help fellas. I searched ebay.ca as suggested and picked a few things up from this ebay store. http://stores.ebay.ca/pikabousflyfishingstore?_trksid=p2047675.l2563 He's out of Yellowknife NWT. Reasonable shipping.

Does anyone know of a good on line fly tying material supplier? I was at Wholesale Sports in Lethbridge yesterday and nearly all the shelves were empty. They didn't have the most common materials like zonker strips, maribou, or even lead free wire. You would think with the winter season coming, they would be stocked up on inventory. Of course, in the city where I live, there are no fly shops to get these materials. Thanks

I couple that I know have a cabin in Elkwater. They have a bulletin (Saw for myself) that states that there will be a hunting season for cougar (4 legged kind) in the Cypress Hills. However there will be regulations such as not allowed to use dogs. I think they need to be thinned out a bit because I believe that there are more out there than they are letting on. I think it's just a matter of time when there will be an incident. Kids, pets, etc.

Does anyone have a favorite or know of an online hook and bead supplier? Looks like Thorne's is closing.

I noticed a few cabins along the river at Legacy Island last year when I was there. Anyone know anything about these? Are they for rent and who owns them? It may a nice get away for a few days.

Well anyway.......Here's hoping you hit a relatively windless day although a little breeze to make the indicator dance a little is OK. I have had a few days where the lake is like glass and that's not necessarily good either. Have a good time. (Pretty hard not too out there)

Oh good. That means the weather will be great for the last week-end before it closes.

Hey, I caught some fish this week that looked just like that. Only a lot smaller
-
I just saw these pic's now. Been too busy fishing. It was good to meet you fellows also. Nice to put a name to a face. I'm glad you had fun. I spent the week out at BH and am going out today again. It's been pretty good overall. Not a lot of bigger ones but strong fighting fish. Fun

And I'll be spending all of next week out there. I've got my fly box stocked up on chronomids.

That cross breed you saw was maybe a rainbow in it's spawning colors???

Cypress Hills Campground Reco.

I like Reesor the best but it will be noisy this week-end. In the townsite, I like Firerock. Then maybe Ferguson. The problem with the main campsite is that they pack you in pretty tight. Firerock has a little more privacy. -

The main campground in Elkwater has showers along with Beaver Creek just across the road. I don't recommend Beaver Creek. It's an RV parking lot. Besides, I think it reservation only. The main in Elkwater may be tough to get into being a long week-end. There are others near by. Firerock on the west end and Ferguson and Lodgepole up the hill. All a short distance from the showers. Do as Kippersnack said and bring wood if you can. The amount they give you for $6.00 isn't enough to boil a pot of water. Keep in mind also that there is a total ban on alcohol in the park this week-end. -
I have the DVD "Brent's Top Ten Lake Flies" where he uses a Nor vise. He is a commercial fly tyer also and can whip off a fly with extreme speed with this vise. It's a different technique but most lilely a matter of getting used to it and learning how to use it. To me it seems that these vises would be great for speed (commercial tyers) and for tying larger flys. On the other hand I have never used one so maybe my 2 cents isn't worth 2 cents.

I wouldn't count on Friday but Sunday may be a possibility. Here's two weather reports. Look at the differences for Sunday. Environment Canada always seems to be a little more accurate. Let's hope. http://www.theweathernetwork.com/weather/caab0106/ http://www.weatheroffice.gc.ca/city/pages/...9_metric_e.html I'll take a drive out Saturday and post a report.

Seems to me you said in a previous post that I should wait until May. At this rate, it looks to be turning out that way. O well, when the time comes I'll be making up for lost time. I'm sure about now the rainbow species appreciate not being harassed by the human species while they're going through the spawning motions safely under the ice. Kind of like dangling a steak and a case of beer in front of you while you're trying , (key word, "trying") to get ................ Oh hell, I give up. Gimme the beer. (Hook set)

I suspected this may happen but thought maybe the wind might have helped keep it open. I have yet had a chance to fish this lake This global warming type weather can stop any time now Hopefully by the week-end things will smarten up and open up enough to fish it.

Only to get there and find the lake frozen over again

Bullshead...still Some Biggens...

June is my favorite month. I take a week off work and spend it out there. The weeds aren't up yet and the bugs are hatching. The weather can be a little wet and cool but only the die-hards go out in the rain. Lots of room to fish. -
There Is Some Winter Kill At Bullshead

So maybe Golden Pond isn't so golden right now. Is there water going through the culvert that joins the pond to the lake?? -

Yup. The only time I really use my fatcat is in summer to get out past the weeds. Otherwise it's from shore. Besides, alot of times it's too windy for my tube. I'm going out Saturday and Sunday for sure. Nothing will stop me. Rain, snow, fog. That's unless the lake freezes over again.
