I'll bring a few faves on the next outing.

wow. Big fly reel in that last one. What kind of rod do you need to turn that line over?
40 ton.. Didn't realize that one made it in there, had some boredom on a job with "endless trouble" the other night.

Which season did you get Ray?
Best bet is after a major snowfall or extreme cold in the "special area".
If you need some more land to hunt I may be able to provide some leads depending on which side you are
Nice Spadefoot.

Nice pics..
Lots of teeth on those walleyes......do you need a steel leader?Walleye's teeth won't cut mono. I believe they are round.

Beauty pics.

I think painted is correct. I remember seeing somewhere once that they are found in limited numbers in the Milk River drainage, which I thought was a little odd.

Was checking that out this morning.. That would be unreal.

I went by boat across the southern end of Great Slave from Hay River to the Mackenzie River, the size of that lake defies imagination. I have no doubt there are huge pike in that whole system. I recall hearing it's 200 or so km from Hay River to Yellowknife and its alot longer than wide. So get yourself some steel and get a plus 50, but remember to post a pic..

First cast resulted in probably the fattest pike I've ever seen, probably over 34" then nothing for 2 hours.. the breeze suddenly stopped and thats when i saw it.. 55" + of mean gator fish swimming within casting range.
Always use steel. And measure your pike up around 40", they can be deceiving when you first see them. I used to get fooled alot on lengths but pack a tape religiously so I'd always double check. Now my guesses are usually pretty close. I've been up that way and know there are monsters there, but pike over 50" are pretty rare. Good job if it was though.

Haven't talked to a CO in the field for over 10 yrs. Then again I must be a mean redneck lookin' SOB that people tend to avoid if the Orvis clad light-in-their-loafers FFers I tried to talk to yesterday are any indication.
You surely fall into the mean lookin' SOB category if you ask me..

The biggest, ugliest streamer in my box.

Pike are prone to a skin bacteria..

Great pix. Do you fish with a DSLR stored in waterproof backpack? It would be tough to take macros and such crisp shots with a run of the mill point and shoot camera.
50D. Backpack yes, waterproof no. And I have fallen in the river with it, on several occasions.
And some I took, some Lorne took.

We used to find them often in the pump shack sump near our house. Look around ponds with fairly marshy ground around them, and they're usually laying low during daylight hours.
Reels For Pike

For 250-300 you can easily get 2 reels that are more than adequate. I always go with 2, sometimes 3 rods rigged up with varying types of line.
***Edit, didn't see the 10 wt part. Maybe a bit more expensive since I use 8s.**
