  1. Brian, Not having troubles with em at all with my scando/WC/MS set ups... thanks for the correction also I think Ed nailed it on a thread on the spey pages.... http://speypages.com/speyclave/showthread....rs+skagit+lines that is why I choose to use the Skagit for SA casts rather than T&G casts.
  2. Brian, My experiences with Skagit set ups is they are not easy to do all casts with.. It shines with doubles and Snap T's and really rocks the poke..however setting up touch and go anchors is labour intensive and when you do get the set up your timing has to be spot on...Too early and you blow your cast..too late and your blow up your rod..A longer head with its grains spread through out 36+FT IMO is much easier to set up and cast a touch and go and much more forgiving for bad timing. Not sure why you want to be difficult however I never said a skagit head would make you a bad caster...I said don't get pigeon holed into just 1 style of casting.
  3. Question #1. Because stripping gets difficult also....If one can toss big nasties with a longer bellies line such as the W/C or even heads in the 70+ft range it makes life easy. Question #2 Because your relegated to water borne anchors...not touch and go. Yawn
  4. Before the Skagit era this was the line to chuck big nasties with..along with Scando set up's....I still believe you can throw big nasties with a 50-55 foot head such as a WC...although a skagit does make it easier..however don't give up on the longer bellied line it will make you a better caster in the long run..I acutally think skagit pigeon holes people on how the evolve in spey. No dispute however on the ease for the beginning caster that skagit casting is easier to pick up on..or that slinging 20ft of T-14 on the end of your line is a cake walk..it like everything does have its place.
  5. After 20 years you write one letter....and throw in the towel....... I have fished the Skeena system for 10 years and in those 10 years never once felt welcomed by the residents...you know what I DON"T GIVE A _ _ CK! I have fished it in blown out conditions...the locals in the Timmy Ho's laughed at us every morning asking us "rookie" Albertians if we are hitting fish.......well as a matter of fact .......yes punter while your stuffing your fat ass face with that jelly-roll I'm poaching your water and hitting untouched fish....I don't care if I'm welcomed there...hell to half the people on the bow I'm unwelcome...maybe I'm just a dink but again I don't care...they have Steel and thats what I'm after... not a hug from the locals.
  6. So than a question.....After this fight is done and this AMP with the current recommendations does not get legislated will you guys fish the Skeena and her tribs? Again you say you have the choice its easy to choose on other people's shoulders!!!!!!!!!!!
  7. bhurt thats never stopped you before..... anyhow if you want to know the short and skinny of it Peter has pretty much explained the recommendations on how they have NRC's and NRA's all grouped together as the first one's to regulate...be it lottery system, limited day licence whatever else they have figured out to regulate the waters. You can write something like this if you want a generic letter..... I must write to you and voice my uneasiness towards the new Recommendation of the working groups on the Skeena Quality Waters Strategy Angling Management Plan. I am from Alberta and feel that there is haste from alot of working groups to move this plan through without fully understanding the issues at hand. I have been fishing the Skeena and its tributary's since ????. I have spent countless numbers of dollars for accomodations's, fuel, groceries, licence's, and apres after the fishing day at the pubs. My outstanding concern with the new Recommendations is that us other "Canadians" are being grouped with the NRA's being Americans, Europeans ect. They do not pay Federal tax's, we in Alberta or any other province do. We pay for the anadromous fish while it swims off our coast. We have stake in this resource. They the NRA's do not have as much stake in the Federal resource. To alienate fellow Canadians like the proposed recommendations is preposterous. If this was to get legislated as is you can never remove this blemish that will be felt across Canada towards fellow "Canadians". I do not think we want to single out fellow Canadians to fulfill a agenda based Working groups idea's. I would first start off by restricting the NRA to the amount of rod days he has on the rivers. That will keep a sense of peace amongst fellow Canadians and create a dynamic system moving NRA's throughout the system. Stopping camping of spots, illegal guiding and crowding on the rivers. I fully acknowledge we have a great resource in the Skeena system, additional cost for a Skeena steelhead tag with the funds going back enhancing the fishery is a great idea. But again I feel Alienated that the NRC may be paying 100-200 Dollars compared to the meager 10 dollars for residents. If that is the case than the net worth of the Skeena and her Tributary's is set on the NRC and the NRC acutally paying the premium to fish this river system, not the resident. Meaning if put through we as NRA's and NRC's set the precedence on the focus on the Skeena as the major stake holders creating the dollars that goes into the fishery. I do agree we as NRC's should pay more than residents and NRA's more than NRC's but by 10 times as much I think not. I strongly feel that if the recommendations go through that you will lose anglers to other systems taking much needed Support, focus and money off the Skeena and the towns around it. Im out......oh Peter wheres the pict of the Brute??? was hoping to see some steel!!!
  8. Biatch all you want on a BB......Does you no good.......Send in e-mails to MOE and Ministry of Tourism Culture and the arts....squeaky wheel gets the grease. env.minister@gov.bc.ca TCA.Minister@gov.bc.ca and yes wtforward I agree NRA's and NRC's should be seperated in the hierarchy....that (being the hierarchy) is skewed to all F@#$!!! as they see a guided NRA that has a high chance of being guided by a fellow NRA higher up on the hierarchy list than a NRC...which is absolutely a slap in the face....again back to point send in letters to the people who are going to legislate this.
  9. Brian, Would've a poke worked better in that situation or was there pretty much no room for a "D" loop to form??.... Cannot really tell from the camera angle.... Nice cast thu for places where you have absolutely zero backcast room and hang rods in the trees rather than line.
  10. If I failed to see the humour than I apologize...been trying not to wade into this gong show...and may have shot from the hip without thinking before hand.... I'm out
  11. With a statement such as that dude...and the name Orvisonly I would call you the elitist... Anyhow back to point the pics show nothing more than pure speculation on behalf of someones opinion on how another was fishing nothing more.... If you saw this dude fishing with that rig than punish him if not than worry about shiat you can control...oooo and for real facts Hooking mortality study was looking for something closer to home however this is the best and most updated I could find...intresting stuff there though.
  12. Drop Meiz a line and let him know what ya want and he'll send ya one to test drive... Best way to see if the stick works for you or not.
  13. That sure is a big rainbow coming out of jumping pound creek..............
  14. Yep Skating dry's is pretty much the #$%!!!! They say the drug is the tug..till you hit one up top. Nice looking tie there and yep the Caddis needs a hitch as it tends to get soggy and sink in the choppy stuff.
  15. I would consider the skagit a shooting head...not sure what else you can label it...it sure is not a long belly....nor a "mid" belly..... so I consider it a short head that you shoot line with..hence a shooting head....unless you wanna fish inside 30' ish than I guess its acutally just a short head that you don't strip nor shoot ...... That said I use to cut M/S's at the factory running line attach slickshooter and basically use the 65ft head as a shooting head soooooooo I'm confused all over again....
  16. Yes Jay I am unfortunately "VERY" aware and updated on the Skeena AMP as of per the October 08 draft... Very anxious for the new draft in September...and yes as I have beat this dead horse what feels like and could be a million times now.... I have explained to Alan Dolan and Associates the best way to follow the AMP's policy which...........as stated in the AMP the least restrictive means possible.... is to regulate the rod days on the rivers to the NRA's..... No draw just a certain amount of rod days....that is the first step you make...You collect data for a few years and in interpret the data and go from there...If you go with the draw for NRC's and NRA's than you are stuck with the draw from now till who knows how long....Just like the way it would be here and anywhere.... BABY STEPS PEOPLE!!!!!
  17. Absolutely NOT!!!!!!!!! If you want to try to limit NRA's go ahead and put a draw in for them....as far as a draw on NRC's ferget that #$%^ing gong show....and if you do put a draw in for NRC's than you better put in a draw for residents.....It is ignorant to expect changes to rules and not expect changes across the board to all Canadians involved.
  18. The primary purpose of an AMP is to establish a water specific regulatory regime utilizing the least restrictive means possible to regulate angler use to levels that maintain the the quality of the angling experience...... I have to ask the question to you Rusty and MOE if you are giving "everyone" the opportunity and using the least restrictive means possible to control this why are the CW licence's so skewed to the residents favour???????? If you need reminding here...... I support the aim of an AMP...I also understand we are not residents of BC and there should be a cost involved with NR's to fish in BC that residents are not subjected too however where do you draw the line........ It gets bad enough to propose this gong show Skeena AMP proposal......so enlighten me please
  19. Rusty and all the rest that think that the AMP is DA BOMB......take a look at how MOE appreciates fellow Canadians surcharges and Classified I agree with the need for a AMP to be established there are no doubts regarding that... My frustrations are how non-residents are looked upon the same way as non-resident aliens... They need to re-look at how they regulate fellow Canadians as the anadromous fish that swim "BC" waters is a Federal resource not a Provincal resource. That being said every year I pay 300 bucks in CW stamps and 60 bucks in conservation surcharges and the non-resident licence to fish for steel...but it @#$%ING drives me wild that Matthius from Germany is paying the exact same amount as me...things that make you go hmmmmm
  20. I'll go along with that... However this will not be a cash cow regulatory system like BC has put into place...it is not a system that was introduced due to angling pressure it is strictly in place to protect the native fisheries that we have in place..... Alberta residents will be the ones footing the bill for this program to get up and running and Alberta residents will be the ones paying the premium to fish classified waters as eluded to earlier much of the waters that will be classfied are not the sytems that bring in out of province or country anglers.
  21. A few questions - What systems get classified? - How many rod days do guides get? - Who eats the bill to create this "classified" waters - Can we have a resident only stretch @ the Poo hole I'd say 100 yards above and below the discharge should work...... - Can we have a steelhead surcharge on the bow for the non-native bow/cutthroat/steelhead hybrids People would see it for what it is and that is a cash grab.....No money from the classified waters would go back into the fisheries for conservation nor enforcement....it would fill the Political coffers that would be all.....
  22. Harps..... you may want to re-read it again (even though you typed it)...... Not sure why this is even up for debate seems like your debating with yourself...
  23. No doubt the world wide web and various books have increased peoples intrest in area's that where once remote rivers, creeks, and stillwaters....however if you are complaining about a river that has a campsite beside it that once was empty and is now full..when did you think the secret got let out on that one? Over harvesting will have an impact over time but not likely in the few years you have been fishing these systems sooo I doubt that is the issue of stretches of water that once was boiling with fish and now is empty...I'd say the chances of a loss of habitat is the more contributing factor... You can get pissy with it and let it ruin your day or you can deal with it and walk just a little farther than the next fisherman its all on how you deal with it..... And Supremeleader you are dead wrong...awareness to watersheds that have people fishing it brings an ambassador to the water they are fishing...... Curious to see why you say it does not??? Im out
  24. Stoking the fire???? The magazine is based out of Maine my guess is they are still wet behind the ears in terms of catching steel so they have not been "learned" to the proper way to land and take picts of a metal head... In time hopefully some one will inform them of the proper way to photograph a fish. Till then they should stick to striped bass. And letters will be sent in time... one battle @ a time though. Busy sending letters to BC Ministers.
