  1. I work at Renfrew Chrysler and so I pretty much take it there haha. Its actually good though, we have a thing called "The peace of mind" check and I get it done every 7000 clicks and they do a total inspection for all major and minor wear and tear plus an oil change and they flush and top up all your fluids as well as rotate your tires for only 70 bucks. Pretty good deal, and it really is peace of mind.

Hi, You know that is a pretty good deal, I take my car to Renfrew Chrsler, I have a new Dodge, it costs me $87.00 something to have just my oil changed, $20.00 something to have my tires rotated, top up my fluids have never been done..or cleaned my car, which they used to do.. anyways.......

For only $70.00 bucks, I'll go for it...

    Thanks..

  2. I don't think it would need to be perfect. If that were the case, not many of us would be catching fish. :)

Tie one up and post a picture and we can provide some valuable feedback and some tips. On a side note with the hackled SJW, check out this pattern from FAOL.

Hi, I've taken a picture of my worm and it's not going to download a picture no way.... for some reason......

It looks like the catterpiller, but no all red dubbing body, less hackle aswell, some peacock wrap at the head.

    Thanks..

  3. Quick question here, I was just checking my TFO Catridge Series reel, and noticed that there seems to be a bit of grinding associated with the drag. At the same spot in every turn, whether pulling line off or reeling in, there is some extra tension. Is this normally just caused by dirt or maybe lack of oil? Or is it something more serious? Thanks

Hi It could be your reel inside needs a good cleaning... I was getting the same thing myself, twice a year I clean my rod and reel, take it in the shower and scrub it down with a old toothbrush.. mild soap and water...

  4. You will need to tie in the thread at the head of the fly and bind down the Larva Lace or Liquid lace with the thread. Use close touching wraps and wrap back to the bend of the hook. Then wrap the thread back to the eye, again using close wraps, it will keep the underbody even and smooth (Bumps are ok, as the fish won't care) Wrap the lace back to the eye, put some tention on it to keep it tight, and tie it off at the eye.

Hi, Thank-you! I was told the fishies do know and do see, flies worms need to be perfect or the meaning would be there's no catch there... I would be the fault of that...

  5. Are you filling the liquid lace with oil?. If so just knot the ends then tie in.

Hi SilverDoctor, Thank-you for replying, This lace is pretty thin, there's no hole to put in any liquid of any kind, I've seen some wire with this plastic coating but I got this othere stuff for some reason, ( don't ask ).

Soooo, I've tired red thread on first than the lace will not stay on I tried to tie on the thread but it makes a ridge at the end of the tie, the beginning it really won't matter if the thread makes a lump cuz I've added a hackle and it looks pretty cool...

    Thanks,

  6. After many days this summer hiking in and out of canyons, walking a crap load of miles and the biggie - fishin at the *%* hole, My waders are pretty freakin nasty!

    Hi,

I looked at my smelly soaks again, this morning I thought they were ok.. but they still have that smell. Not as bad as they were or it could be my sniffer, I know I have a really good nose for smells. I did the BS wash, soft detergent wash & vinegar. My winter neoprenes are good as gold, I smelt them tonight and they are ok. Thank-God.. washing them in the tub would of been a chore!

    Anyways, thanks,

  7. I've used a drop or 2 of clove oil to mask the smell, but you really need to wash them with a mild detergent... unless your fishing has been lucky, then leave'em be.

Thank-you for all your replies.. Last night I tried 1 cup of white vinagar 6 cups of water, left to soak all night in the sink, this morning I wrong them out to dry outside all day today, my socks are ok, just that " tweek " of smell... Which I can live with.. My fishing has been great! (Touch me head) Don't want to change it. I don't understand why they went like that, they were ok. I was on my holidays at the Crow last week I never used them I had them there. I started to wear my neoprene the first time this year.. I always wet wade.. Anyways they are packed away for this season till next year..

    Thanks again..

  8. I used the clinch knot. not the super clinch or whatever it is.

Is it possible to wrap/twist the line too many times? Everyone says wrap it five or six, but what if you do extra, like seven or eight? Too much?

Hi, I do a wrap of 8-9 and it works great for me, I was told to wrap it 8-9 times and that's what I'm doing..

  9. Hi I'm looking for a website for traditional flies, nothing fancy smasy, some flies that was used way back, I like to keep that tradition going, Hares Ear and Soft hackle flies is there anymore.. does anyone know.

    Thank-you..

  10. I was lucky enough to get out to the Bow again this morning, down in the Burnsmead area. (Sunked again, but that's another story) And as I await my waders to come, I am still wet wading. Ever notice that even as you sit, 5-6 hours later, that your feet still feel like they are in your wet wading boots mid shin deep in water.

    I love that feeling :D

Hi, Nope I've never felt that feeling, I was fishing yesterday for 9 hours in the water knee deep. my feet are nice and clean now, best of all my toe nails.... My back was kinda sore from standing all that time..

  11. Poll allows Multiple choices.

Hello. I'm relatively new to fly fishing and I'm wondering whats the most common choices for Fly Vest and apparel. I'm not sure I'm a vest kinda guy, & I don't think I'll be spending a few hundred on a chest/back combo soon, so I still don't have all my 'poop in a group' yet, sort to speak. I lost my net my last outing, and apparently my latest 'bright idea' how to carry it was less then genius.

So, if anyone wants to recommend any setups, to keep things nice and easy, I'm all ears.

How do most of you attach your nets?

I like to keep everything mobile, as do most of you I'd imagine. I learned right away that when wading, its best to leave the tackle boxes and carry along bags at home, or in the truck. Walking back for stuff, or worse, forgetting to, sucks bad.

I think I'd like those 'tool lanyards' (necklace thingy), since I think their perfect. Them and some retractors, are at the top of the checklist for me. I think I was as happy as the next guy when almost everyone stopped wearing those fanny/hip sacks, lol, but I'd think they'd be great on the river.

Any fly vest features that you want to look for, or to avoid at all costs?

On a side note, I picked up some waterproof, over-pants for $15 that are just like track pants with thicker nylon. I used to have a pair before, that I used over my ski pants, back when I snowboarded, to avoid tearing the ski pants up.

Well I'm going to wear them over my waders, unless its scorching out, to help avoid leaks from twigs, flies, sharp crap & Murphy's law. Just a thought, I figure its better to tear or snag my $15 over-pants, then my $100 waders, and their so light I don't even feel them on. I'm sure I'm not the first to think of it.

Hi, I had a fly fishing vest, than I found it got in my way, with the extra, extra package I have on my chest....With all my goodies, and the vest pocket, it stuck out to much, Soooo, I now have my landard and a backpack I got made for me it works great!I have a magnet thingy with my net on my backpack, it works for me, Than I only take what I need for the day I'm out fishing.

    Thanks

  12. Hey,

Just a quick note. Fished the crow today and it was tough fishin to say the least. The water is up a bit but only had about 16" visability at best and 8" at worst. I was there 2 weeks ago and the fishing was amazing but today only had 1 to hand and a few others on the line. All fish were close to shore. I was using hairs ear and pheasant tail and bouncing it off the bottom. Found some really big golden stones under the rocks but fish were not taking. I should also note I am no expert on the crow (or elsewhere) as I have only been there twice...so take my advice with a grain of salt! Good Luck

Hi, Thanks for this info, I'm going to be up at the Crow for a week, I'll try my goodies, hairs ear and pheasant tail. I hope I do ok.

  13. I am planning on heading to the Crow next Sunday (May 13) for a few days. I am not much of a "nympher" but I want to improve on that technique. Any suggestions on rigs and flies. I know you guys can give me some good advice.

Also do you know if there will be wood available at Lundbreck Falls Campground?

Hi, I googled (wood available at Lundbreck Falls Campground ) Says yes. Firewood Sales available – check for posted times at each wood yard.

    Have fun.

  14. Still pondering......

Now i'm wondering about costs. Telus has quoted me a pretty good deal, but......... I have no idea about costs to

    • send or receive a text message
    • retrieve an email / send an email
When doing email is it possible to get the message from 'palm' to home computer where all emails are permanently stored.

As you can tell I have no idea about this sort of stuff.'m of tha era that a phonewas a phone was a phone - nothing more nothing less.

Hi, Well if your thinking about it, think about what kind of service your going to get from Telus.. Rogers, ect.. getting service goes-good service a long way expecally when you need it..

    Hints / tips????

  15. Great tip JV, there are so many tools out there now its crazy. Digital music is my savior, I used to ping pong tracks with 3, $20 cassette tapes for hours and hours, and be left with such degraded quality it was depressing. Now, Point & click.

I also recommend Adobe Audition, any version if your in to recording. It makes recording as easy as solitaire, well after you spend a year learning how to produce and engineer music, that is. Its almost as complex as Photoshop, that might be cause I'm still learning with graphics.

I think there is great value in 'noodling' occasionally, as apposed to only learning someone else's work. Obviously you can't create good music unless you learn to play good music, but I find some people only focus on their skills, and proving them to others by nailing a cover tune. I'm the small minority when it comes to guitar players, I'm a born rhythm player. I'm not in anyway suggesting that I'm 'too cool' to play other peoples songs, its just I've always been more interested in writing. I've met so many guitar players that can play 100's of songs by someone else, but are completely stumped when it comes to original music. I've noticed that they fall in to a groove, and don't develop their own sound and style.

I've found that most guitar players play for 2 reasons.

1 they like to listen to music, new, old, classic, original, or whatever.

2 They like to share their skill for others to enjoy.

Now most people have a healthy balance of the 2, but some, like Pipes past instructor, get way to focused on showing off. To me, playing on a street corner is 'showing off', but I'm modest and I don't play to impress at all. Also, everyone has their niche I suppose, and if it wasn't for flamers, who else would climb equipment and spit out 'sick licks'? lol

If I was starting all over again, knowing what I know now, I would have taken music lessons first and learned more of Musical Theory. My sisters a music major, and can write music like Beethoven (with her fancy software of course) but her hands don't last more then a few minutes with a guitar in them. Wimp!, lol.

I wouldn't want a classical guitar instructor who's complete focus was on notations and boring crap, either. I'd simply ask if they can read and write in notation and knew the structure of musical theory.

I think the point I've been trying to make, is that you should remember that an instructor will only show you what to play and practice so that you can develop the skills needed to play what you want to play. Its up to you to practice them enough to build the strength, muscle memory, song/note/chord/timing- memory, and the nice calluses on your fingers so they don't bleed.

I betcha that G & D feel great on your 'green' fingers after you hold them for a few mins, eh? In time, it won't even bother your finger-tips, but your hand strength will alway limit your ability. Until I get a bionic hand to replace mine when it finally gives out.

Wow, it feels nice to be able to give advice and talk about something on this site that I know something about.

Chords; G, D, C, A & E are the bread and butter chords. F, B are less used of the common chords.

Play a G chord for say 3 strums (up & down), then switch to a C for twice as many, and thats the guitar for "Wheat Kings" by the Hip. The Chorus is just a D note. Just a cheap & easy tune for ya to learn. Switching from note to note and how to move your hand is one of the biggest lessons to learn, after you learn the chords themselves.

Well, that concludes our Guitar 101 lessons for today. lol

p.s- There are also online guitar lessons, for free and for fee. & Rock on Fisherwoman!
