My car will be up and running next week!!
-
Is that real time, or just what it feels like?? 2-10 min is an awfull long time for 16-20 fish, but bringing them in could seem like that.
-
Sorry for the image quality... I thought I had better that showed both. Cheers,
-
Then Same fish, picture data shows that both pictures were taken within one minute (both are recorded as 5:40PM). Quick capture, very short time out of the water, low temps (water and air). Eyes centered as fish was put back in the water.
-
That is what makes tying awsome!! Hard Core.
-
But they're in the water. In water a fish will have centred pupils. A bunch of good biologist have suggested that a fish full of piss and vinegar will look down to the water "where they want to go", while a stressed and tired fish won't have the energy to move its pupils down. Definatively stressed fish: Not stressed: Of course like I said... not 100% and no science backing. Just what I've been told and what I've observed. In Water I'm in a rush, but I'll dig up picks of the same fish in and out of water. Fun, fun Cheers,
-
I think you can watch them on http://hook.tv/ Lots of good videos.
-
Just keep them in the water when you catch them!! With air temps this high you want to minimize their exposure to it. Lucky the water temps are still a fairly low (will be higher than average I'm sure though!!) No need to get the high, out of water fish pictures. Go with the amazing trip and action shots when the weather is like this.

This was one of the worst carcasses... Found it in a Grizzly Den on the Arctic Slope. The Grizzly was coming around the bend... I had jumped out of the helicopter to look at a pair of dead caribou calves... fell through the snow into a den in the bank, found a cow caribou and scrambled back to the copter. Didn't complete a necropsy on that one, but we figured a grizzly got her. Great grayling fishing in the rivers...

This moose didn't get along very well this winter with the ATV/snowmachine bridge. Creek full of cutts... would have been great to fish a maggot pattern downstream if this was later in the spring/summer.

Is there a place to have some beverages and maybe shoot the $hit with Flyfishcalgary/Flyangler.ca folks?? -
That's worth more than $100. I'll let you buy me a beer the next time we meet... Many pay lots for that opportunity. I just have to pretend to cast like... I think I'm the worst caster I know??
-
Its always nice to know you can get out that extra 10 feet if you need it. Fish always rise 10-20 feet farther than I can cast.
-
Clive I disagree somewhat. I find downlooking fish are better off. In-water a fish's eyes will be centered especially if you are just releasing it (except some upside down situations). A dead fish will have centered pupils. Out of water a non stressed fish will look down or sometimes will have centered pupils, but I've personally found they look down more often. I find if I get a fish in fast it looks down, if I take longer its eyes are centered... mind you I leave them in the water (turn 'em upside down) more often than not. Alot of fish that I have stressed out have centered pupils when in hand, Out of the Water... except some that looked down. On hot days fish seem to have centered pupils. Maybe it has more to do with disorientation. I guess what I'm really saying is that there is no real correlation.

Stephen, Check out Paul Arden's site. Lots of great stuff on there and lots of "Master Casters" on the board. Ask there and you'll get a good answer, and then a ton of physics. http://www.sexyloops.com/flycasting/contents.shtml

Mucho Gracias!! Up to 249 with alot of Alberta names on that petition. This whole thing will be supported by a huge legal victory in the US regarding hatchery fish verses wild fish. Thanks again! -
Oh, a similar discussion is going on over-here... http://www.sexyloops.co.uk/cgi-bin/theboar...ST;f=12;t=6023; in New Zealand. OHV's also introduce weeds and can carry mud with whirling diesease, dydimo, and NZ mud snails. Bad, bad, and bad!!
-
You're right Greg, but in the SE slopes, OHV use (ATV's, 4x4's, bikes, etc) contribute to habitat loss and pollution big time. Responsible use is fine, but people are tearing up the streams, refuelling on the banks, washing oil and mud off in the water, tipping vehicles and dumping gas, basically doing all the things that industry get fined for (well would with more enforcement). (Also access is easier for poachers, new trails cause sediment point sources, trails affect wildlife movements, etc) Why can recreational users destroy stuff for their enjoyment when industry using the resource has to minimize their impact. I can tell you, there is a large impact on fisheries from random campers and OHV, rivals industry in my mind!! Cheers, Paul
-
A few REALLY wreak it for the rest!! Its hard not to look at ATV's in distaste after you see stuff like whats on these videos. That and going up there in person and seeing cars left in the muholes (used to be streams), seeing ripped up trails everywhere, seeing garbage left all over and all along the trails, etc. Add to that... taxpayers pay for the cleanup. Otherwise, responsible use is fine. I've quaded, I have friends who do, some groups put money into creating bridges (some don't care). Its going to be hard on all the users now... especially with the bad image that's been created. Cheers, Harps (BTW, this is the link to the CBC story: http://www.cbc.ca/canada/calgary/story/200...-destroyed.html )

Lots of great spots even on the I15 from Great Falls to Helena (check out the river below Canyon Ferry Dam). On Sunday there was a ton of rise forms all along the highway (it seemed like ever trout water from Lethbridge to Ennis was chock full of splashy trout!!). If only I had brought my rod... Montana has scenery that Alberta won't touch until after the next ice age... also the spring creeks...

Thanks Guys!! -
I have the 3wt which I love for small criks. A little softer rod and progressive, nice and easy to cast.
