  1. I agree with what most people are saying. Go with an 8 wt rod. Never had a problem landing 20 - 25 lb pike. They can cast some big flies with ease. I think a 10 wt would be ok but a little over kill in my opinion. I know if I have the option I will cast a lighter rod over a heavier rod. Lots of options for reels. I have owned pflueger presidents in the past and really liked the drag on them. All depends on what kind of money you want to spend but you can get started for relatively cheap and have no problem fighting these monsters. There is lots of time before spring so I would look for second hand deals. This will get you in some quality gear at a fraction of the price. Pike are a lot of fun. Enjoy.

  2. Like them black and white shots. Good times. I think the guy holding the fish could be a hand model.

I agree with you Heimdallr it is nice to see some different things being done with pictures.

  3. This is out of the Brooks weekend paper. Good to see that some people get caught. It was the eyes of other fisherman and a call to the RAP line that helped catch this guy. Just a reminder that it does work so lets keep calling in poachers.

  4. Not sure what you are looking to spend or how good a deal you were getting on the TCR but I have a 5wt 9' 4pc XP that is in good condition. Light soiling on the cork that could probably be cleaned up. I would let it go for $350. It is a really nice casting rod and I am sure others on here that have used the XP would tell you the same. It is an option for you any way.

  5. Thanks for sharing pics. Looks like you had a great trip. Need to get down there soon. To bad those cutties mouths are getting so shredded down there. Fished Livingston two years ago and most of the cutties caught were missing part of their lip or it was ripped and hanging there. Can't see it happening with single barbless hooks.
