  1. I wonder about anybody who can't figure out that the rivers, streams, creeks and lakes belong to all. If your a guide who gets paid to take new people to a stream isn't that the same as posting it on this site. If the fishing is good then why not let the masses know, only a few will trek back into the woods all others will park and walk the short distance. I have seen some beutiful waters in my time and have no issues telling them to anyone who wants to know. If you get upset about things like this then go fish a atlantic river and stand arm to arm with others or go to the states and hit some of those rivers, heck go over to the UK and try to get onto a river there. What about all those books and magazines that have them all named with fish type and access, not many people complaining about them. So I say suck it up sweet cheeks and if you don't like people talking here well then don't read about it and just plain leave, your choice, as for me I like to see what's happening in the world as I will be out of fishing for over a year serving in another country where I can't fish, hard to cast wearing a flak vest and carrying a weapon, lol. that is all from me, for now,,lol.
  2. Sweet deal, wish I saw it sooner,, what was the winning bid,, maybe next year,, sseing as I will be fishing the Helmend river next year,,lol.
  3. Well now you all have chosen well, but Like LS says the older the better, anything younger than 16 years old I don't buy. My stock goes from a previous buy (when I was young and dumb) 12 years to a 25 that run me $400, glenfidich , oh nice and sweet. When I travel to the scotch land I also pick up some cask specials, they are what the distillers leave in the cask after they bottle the rest, lots of alcohol content and strong, but oh so nice,,, If your looking for a good bottle look in the $100 - 200 range, you will pick up a excellent one for that range but find out first if you like the peaty taste (like being stuck in a peat bog) are the woody flavour,, Thats all I can say other than enjoy it all,,,,
  4. Well now first off ladystrange you don't really want to see him with his hat off not a pretty sight and as for the sucker that was a small one, that the finest flyfisher known to my dog, caught at that pool so much for the grayling and the bull (trout that is), The cowtown dude knows what my fish sizes have been caught up there as he has been there to see the monsters, lol. So what else can I say about what he wants to know nothing so I will just slag him,,, ah no I won't he's a nice guy,,,
  5. Well I have ben fishing with 2 of my dogs, a border collie/american water spanial cross name Checkers, and a yellow lab named Cleo, they were both fine on the water except for the odd stick that needed throwing and the odd time I am satnding deep in the water and feel the tap tap on my back of dog feet, they both explored and returned when called found some grouse and never saw a beer are moose, maybe they were so good they scared them away, also they geve me a very good excuse to blame the bad smell that always follwed a goose call,,,lol. I now have a golden retrevier but she is to young to go fishing this year and with us fishing up on the little smoky and some bear issues now I can't wait till she is old and big enough. Fishing with dogs is excellent and should be done if the dog is average trained and enjoys the outdoors, most dogs don't care about livestock are other animals, as long as you have some treats and a stick to throw,,,
  6. 46 and still going,,,,,,, to the washroom, the doctor, the pain killers, just had the 22 aniversary last month, no kids but lots of pets, remember enjoy life because it could be your last (if your not a Budahist), and your only as old as the person your holding, so keep them young, lol.
  7. Thx all, one of these days I will remember to bring my camera when i fish for the cats, one day,,,, you use big streamers are big nympho's ah nymph's,,, any thing big and ugly. A boat is better but you can stand from the bank, best below the damn at lockport so you hvae some fluctuating levels and currents and some big drop offs but then again thats why the fish are there,, I bought a 10 wt just for this fishing,, I just started fishn for the cats this year so i am still learnin not much yet to talk about, but working on the big one, a freind of mine caught a 30 lb on a rod and reel useing shrimp as a bait, now I just need to get that one,,, I will post some pics as soon as I can, but with the job it's a little hard to find the time to much time on the road but then again thats why I bought the 4 piece 8 wt lol.
  8. Congrats Dude, yep you will love the feeling it only gets better, and more expensive as you need more and more gear, lol. I loved the feeling of the first big fish I caught on a fly, was a 20 lb pike off Great Slave Lake, fought him for 45 min, a few pics and off he went, the only prob older gear and the drag nut kept falling off as i wound the reel, made for a interesting fish, at the same time the fish cops were checking for licenses and waited for all the action to be done, the catch and release before they motored over, nice of them. But have fun fish lots and don't be afraid to ask questions, you will love the amswers,,,lol.
  9. Well I broke my 4 wt TFO 2 piece, when brining in a nice size grayling, but that was after a small streamer smacked it on a back cast (chuck and duck) I now have several other TFO's and all are in good condition but then again they don't see much action,,,,,, all I can say is send it back and hope that one day it will hang on,,,,,,
  10. Why Yes I do, Fly fishn for catfish, big thing here on the mighty Red,, Use big ugly fly's, that sink and feel funny, thats why I bought the 10 wt,,,, lol. A guy here caught a 30 - 40 lb on one and supposdly bigger are there,,
  11. Hello All, well i am now new to this site, was on the old alberta one and loved the reading and advice. I am working out of the peg but live in the chuck so for now I am casting flyies for big ugly cats, will one day get a picture to show all. I do a lot of fly chucking with the cowtown scribe and we do head up to the Fox Creek area every fall for a pilgrimage of sorts, bullies, graylings and a grouse are two. I have definatly been bitten by the bug (bugs) because I started off with a old 6 piece 6 wt rod and 1 reel and now own a 4 - 6- 8- 10 wt rods and 6 reels, with of course all the waders and boots and vest and everything else that comes along,,,,, Have fun and see ya all on the streams,,,
