kipper Posted March 28, 2009 Posted March 28, 2009 Having recently been to Banff for several days I couldn't help but notice the absence of any kind of fishing related store in the townsite. There was one store that had an abundance of outdoor clothing and a small amount of equipment on the upper level. I believe they had about 4 pair of wading boots and 6 to 7 flyrods on display. The only flies I saw were on a small display on the wall in a obscure and inaccessible location. I just wonder if I missed something or are there no fly shops in Banff? Quote
seanbritt Posted March 28, 2009 Posted March 28, 2009 Not sure about Banff, but do know of one in Canmore on Railway Ave. next to Safeway. Its pretty small, has hunting/fishing/fly-fishing gear. You can buy flies, etc. there, but has very limited tying stuff. Quote
bigalcal Posted March 28, 2009 Posted March 28, 2009 You were at Monod's and I think that is the extent of the shops in Banff. There was one a block off Banff Ave on Bear St. but I think/know they packed it in a few years ago. Quote
Nick0Danger Posted March 28, 2009 Posted March 28, 2009 There is an ourdoors store on the main drag there, that has a decent selection for fly fishing stuff, lots of highend if memory serves me correctly a guy there just for that section. Quote
Pipestoneflyguy Posted March 29, 2009 Posted March 29, 2009 Monods has a decent selection in the summer, but yeah, mostly high end stuff. they do sell some great "local" area fly box's, if your into pimped flies Wapiti in Canmore is nice - great guys run the place, I am trying to convince them of the value of stocking soft hackle. Wilsons in Lake Louise has very little beyond a few essentials - they do stock a few TFO's that could save a weekend gone "snap". Quote
Pipestoneflyguy Posted March 29, 2009 Posted March 29, 2009 Oh Yeah - Wilsons in Lake Louise also rents gear and keeps a list of "hot spots" behind the counter. sooo if your headed this way check their list and then don't go to any of those waters LOL Quote
