polegrl Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 Can anyone recommend a nice lazy float trip south of the City. What are the Highwood or Sheep rivers like to just chill and float down the river? Am planning to go with non-fishing orientated people so fishing prospects not critical. Thx! Quote
SanJuanWorm Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 Float the bow to the highwood. Its wicked. Or put in at edworthy park and float down to princes island park. Quote
polegrl Posted July 7, 2008 Author Posted July 7, 2008 Thanks SanJuanWorm - I'm actually looking for something outside the Calgary city limits to the south. So based on your post perhaps entering the Bow around 22X or the DeWinton bridge and heading south...how far along Highwood can/should one go? Quote
j5ep00 Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 i have floated the highwood from the highway 552 bridge to natures hideaway it doesnt take very long but its relaxing. how long are you looking to float? Quote
Castuserraticus Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 Did a float from High River downstream several years ago with Bow Waters Canoe Club. The river meanders through a lovely canyon with abundant bird life. Even though it's through farmland it doesn't feel like it at river level. I can't remember where we got out - a bridge crossing. We spent about 6 hours or so including a lunch stop. I didn't see any fish rise that day. Quote
polegrl Posted July 8, 2008 Author Posted July 8, 2008 Thanks for the suggestions. I was thinking something around 3 hours. I've got to get rid of this farmer's tan that I've got going in favour of a bikini line tan. Quote
j5ep00 Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 depending on the flows i think the lower float of the highwood takes around 2 hours. its been a few years since i have done it. there are also cliffs at the end you can jump off and a nice gravel area to lounge in the sun. Quote
