Guest Sundancefisher
The wife figures she needs a cell phone for emergencies. Any idea which company/plan is the best deal? Thanks. Sun
j5ep00
well it doesnt sound like she will be using it much. most cell phone providers sell airtime in 10 25 and 50$ ammounts the 10$ card expires after 30 days. the 25 and 50 after 60days im with telus and the rate is 25cents a min. they round up to the next min even if you only use 9 seconds. im with telus because for 2$ a day i get unlimited incoming calls and evenings and weekends free starting at 6pm. fido offers per second billing. so you are only charged for what you use. only there 50$ card lasts 60 days. but they dont offer as good of packages as telus or rogers you can purcahse a cheaper phone at london drugs on telus from 50-100$ they give you a 50$ sign up credit on your account. im not to sure if fido or rogers offers this. hope this helps, now off to work
ladystrange
if by emergency she means 911 calls only, no plan required. by some legislation somewhere all phones must be able to call 911 whether on a network and activated or not.. if she means emergency as in 'honey i need a loaf of bread and quart of milk can you stop at the store on your way home', i had telus on a pay as you go plan for 10cents a minute for a number of years but my calling and text msg out grew that so i switched to a plan. i paid something like $50 and had a 50$ credit applied to the phone but that was 5 years ago. but at least you get the full telus service and coverage
Castuserraticus
Just switched my wife and kids to Virgin mobile - no system fees or other add-ons. Just $0.32 per minute. You have 45 days to use the minutes. Automaitc top-up means minutes are always there. Virgin to virgin texts are only $0.05.
