Busey Posted April 19, 2008 Posted April 19, 2008 Bought the book "Barr Flies". It's quite good. Here are some of my attempts at the rubber leg copper john. Quote
Guest bigbadbrent Posted April 19, 2008 Posted April 19, 2008 those will work, if you go to smaller diameter legs, they'll move more with the smaller length, then the bigger diameter ones Quote
beedhead Posted April 19, 2008 Posted April 19, 2008 Nice job!!!...Them would work awesome on the Crow at about size 16-18....My thoughts.... Quote
WesG Posted April 19, 2008 Posted April 19, 2008 those will work, I dissagree, I dont think your going to catch a damn thing on them.... you may as well just send them to me right now Quote
Busey Posted April 19, 2008 Author Posted April 19, 2008 Thanks guys. With this crap weather I'll be hittin' the vise all weekend and cranking out some more. Quote

streamguy Posted April 22, 2008 Posted April 22, 2008 i picked up the barr's fly's book as well and there are some very nice pattern's in it well worth picking up imo Quote
fishfreak Posted April 22, 2008 Posted April 22, 2008 Nice flies! I tied up a bunch of rubber legged copper johns as well, very similar design, but I used pheasant tail for the tail because I got tired of fiddling around with the biot(ch). Is there a recommended length for the legs? Mine are a little longer than those right now. I should also get some smaller diameter legs like Brent mentioned. Once again, sweet flies! Quote
admin Posted April 22, 2008 Posted April 22, 2008 Sweet looking bugs. I echo Brent's comment on the smaller diameter legs. Great ties. Quote
Riverview Posted April 26, 2008 Posted April 26, 2008 Great lookin bugs. Havin a little trouble tieing in the legs, do you attach one leg per side one at a time or tie both at the same time. Haven't been able to find a tutorial, guess i'll have to buy the book. Quote
Busey Posted April 27, 2008 Author Posted April 27, 2008 Great lookin bugs. Havin a little trouble tieing in the legs, do you attach one leg per side one at a time or tie both at the same time. Haven't been able to find a tutorial, guess i'll have to buy the book. I tie them in one at a time. Lay down two wraps of thread over the dubbing then tie in each leg one at time. Dub over the leg tie in point and then dub forward to the bead. Quote
fishfreak Posted April 27, 2008 Posted April 27, 2008 I bought some smaller rubber legs and tied some of these. I even caught a couple on them. Woo hoo! Quote
