angler
Pondering a vhf radio as I'll be spending more time on AB and BC forestry roads the next while. I see relatively few able to transmit above 150 which is where the RR channels reside. I have found these https://www.amazon.ca/TYT-Vehicle-Mounted-Handheld-Transceiver-136-174MHz/dp/B00IYAX9R4/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1537374700&sr=8-3&keywords=vhf+radio+tyt and https://www.aliexpress.com/item/TYT-TH-9800-Pro-50W-809CH-Quad-Band-Repeater-Car-Truck-Ham-Radio-Transceiver/32401346667.html?spm=2114.search0104.3.17.e285401egY7eNg&ws_ab_test=searchweb0_0,searchweb201602_1_10065_10068_10130_10547_10059_10884_10548_10887_10696_100031_10084_10083_10103_10618_10139_10307,searchweb201603_54,ppcSwitch_5&algo_expid=8460fb92-e2cb-4d84-8a03-40449047f170-2&algo_pvid=8460fb92-e2cb-4d84-8a03-40449047f170&priceBeautifyAB=0 Whatchyausin? northfork
I run Kenwood in my trucks and Motorola for a handheld. You need a radio that can Tx/Rx 136-174 MHz. You also need one that can hold at least 100 channels, Alberta hasn't got with the program of streamlining all resource roads like BC to get everything down to 40 channels. I work all over western Canada and my radios probably have 300 channels in them, and I've had to use nearly all of them. Communications shop purchase, program, and setup will run you around a grand. My suggestion would be to find either a kenwood, icom, or motorola mobile unit on kijiji that can hold quite a few channels for 3-4 hundred bucks and get a place like sundance comm in calgary to program it for you and install it/give you whatever accessories you need.
