Bird I.d.?

Recommended Posts

Black head? Then Franklin's gull.

Yea that's them,Franklins,thx!

I guess it's my east coast roots, but when I hear the word "gulls" I think of goose-size herring gull dump ducks eating McDs French fries or hundreds of them chasing a lobster boat and shitn on my head......Franklins are nice and well behaved by comparison....I'm still gonna call them terns, just becuz. :D

I can see how someone could mix the two up:

I've always been a bit of a bird nut and I'm always amazed at the incredible variety of birds you see on the river and how they change throughout the year. I don't remember seeing so many cormorants in the past, but I have seen dozens near Inglewood. On Saturday we pulled the boat into the bank right next to a great big heron, absolutely gorgeous.

We saw a few of the armadas of pelicans fly in during our float on Saturday. Flocks of 10-15 birds circling high above the river. It still blows my minds that those things can even take off.
