I saw somewhere on how to straighten deer hair (remove the curve from the hair, not straighten by stacking) but can't recall where I saw it at. Does anyone know how or know of a link for doing so?

Wish I knew as it could be handy. I have boiled deer hair while dyeing.... it wasn't that curvy to begin with though so its hard to say if it did anything in the way or staightening it. I'd love to see the site if you find it.

i did an internet search and 2 websites that i found indicate boiling the hair will straighten. oddly, both sites were art sites referring to deer hair paint brushes. if i find anything else, i'll post.

It's not the way i was looking for or seen before. I've sent off an email to a friend of mine in mainland Europe for his input and still waiting to hear back.

I found out how: there are 2 ways: one is by steaming and the other is by knicking the hair on the back side of the curve and bending backwards. It's the knicking one I know I had seen but forgotten.

Does the steaming method actually keep the hair straight? I am looking for a way to get some polar bear hair straight, I may try that one. Any url's for detailed instruction?

I have never tried steaming so can't say it works well or not. I have done several searches on the subject and no instruction of any kind has come up for my searches

My guess is that steam will return it to its natural state. I've never seen a naturally curly deer, so it should work. Especially if the hair is curved because of the way it was packaged/squashed.

Having said that, I steamed some flies before and on one particular fly, it didn't straighten it. Worked wonders on all the others.
